i am pretty new to BMX so i can't do much.i am practicing wheelies and manuals first so i can figure out the good balance spot.

i find that i have to pedal to get the front wheel of the ground. but once its up i stop pedalling. is that still considered a manual

Maybe like a half pedal would be allright, but more and your looking at a wheelie.. Just keep trying to lift it.

No footed upside-down tailwhips

Wouldn't any tailwhip technically be no-footed (unless it was a footjam or you were scuffing a whiplash)?

I'm just workin on my spins. I can get 180 on anything and 360 on some things but there still a little sketchy.

VROD.... how did u get your bunnyhop so high. i have done what everyone says i still can't do a bunnyhop!

VROD

lol I just get some speed and then jump. I practiced yesterday until I hurt and still hurting today but thats how it is when you are 52 I hope to get 12" by Christmas.the manual is still real hard for me I think its mostly fear of landing on my butt and hurting my back but I will get it in time I hope.

rice400
11-26-04, 06:24 PM
do u mean u kind of jump of the pedals in a way or u pull the front end up than the back?

when it comes to the manual just go for it. usually if u go back to far u can just put your feet down and hold onto the handlebars

yeah, digging your toes into the petals and pulling both wheels off at the same time is stupid, its bunny hopping to call it a trick. that style bunny hop is gonna get you up anything higher thata curb, and certanly doesnt help on jumps.
Do your bunny hops like an ollie on a skateboard, front wheel first than pull the back up.

man i have tried all the different ways of bunnyhopping but i still cant get it

VROD
11-26-04, 06:39 PM
I kind of squat and pull the front up then jump really don't know what I am doing but its working alot better than 2 weeks ago

11-26-04, 06:40 PM
the first problem could be the bike, it could be to heavy, or the geometry doesnt fit your body. If its not the bike its probably the technique... try this...
its really a smooth movement. youve got to pull up on the front and put your weight back, then when your front is off the ground about 6 in you want to move your weight forwards, and kind of suck the bike up to your body.

or check out trials-online.com (http://trials-online.com/techniques-bunnyhop.php)... watch the movies on bunny hopping too.

11-26-04, 06:45 PM
k. i'll try that tomorrow. its only 6:45 central time and its pitch black outside

i have the haro backtrail x1. i know its made for dirt jumping but i was thinking maybe u could do a bunny hop with it. it weighs 30 pounds

arboc!
11-26-04, 06:48 PM
yeah, the bike is fine. i just watched those videos, and none of them really have abmx style bunny hop, ill try to find a better video.

ya i also saw that one a couple days ago. i have it bookmarked. i do what they say i just can't get it. i still don't understand what they mean by "get the pedals vertical"

arboc!
11-26-04, 07:00 PM
they want you to angle your feet forwards so when it comes time to pull the back up your feet can get some grip on the pins of the pedal. (its not totally vertical, but there saying vertical compaired to the frame, not the ground, so if your bike is angled back the pedals are slated forwards.

ok. tomorrow i'll go and try to bunnyhop while using these tips

my friend can bunnyhop (both wheels at the same time, not front than back) i asked him how to do it but he won't tell me.

i figure once i get the 2 wheel bunnyhop down i can try the front wheel than the back

arboc!
11-26-04, 07:06 PM
well its a fine way to just bunny hop, just not past like 5 or six inches.the front then bike method can get you over much taller things. and bunny hopping up things with speed

could u guys help me when it comes to jumping stairs. i know this place that has a couple steps and i would love to try to jump it. there is no ramp or anything like that

could i get away with going really fast and pulling up on the handlebars? i hope i don't have to bunnyhop. since i suck at that

haro_rider09

my friend can bunnyhop (both wheels at the same time, not front than back) i asked him how to do it but he won't tell me.

well when you do learn to bunny hop good because it just takes practice you need to teach him how to do a real bunny hop

rice400
11-26-04, 08:05 PM
yep. he thinks he's all big and bad. i could have a freakin $500 dollar bike and he would still think his bike is better (he has a 2003 backtrail x2)

i'm not saying its bad. i mean for gods sake i have a 2005 backtrail X1 but i get tired of him thinking everything i get is junk compared to what he has. thats my 2 cents worth

when i am able to do at least a one foot bunnyhop i am going to challenge him to a contest. than i could say ha ha i can't bunnyhop higher than u. that would probably knock him down a peg.

or it would make you look like a dumb @$$

rice400
11-26-04, 09:56 PM
ya. so do u have any tips on jumping steps

da_empire04
11-27-04, 01:55 AM
stairs: yeah, u do have to bunny hop unless ur going extremely fast, but i dont recommend that coz its gives you (or at least me) less confidence. u dont have 2 hop high at all, unless its a really long stair set.

11-27-04, 08:11 AM
noooo. i was gonna go riding today but now i can't. its snowing. tomorrow its supposed to be sunny with a high of 40. thats good weather for me. since i live in iowa and its almost december a high of 40 is like living on the beach

i wanted to practice bunnyhops, manuals, and jump of steps. i guess i'll have to wait

rice400
11-27-04, 01:19 PM
ok i want to jump just about 3 steps. very small since i'm just learning. would i need to bunnyhop at all. would it be alright if i just went a little faster than normal. i mean jeez. its like a 1 1/2 foot jump.

arboc!
11-27-04, 02:28 PM
when your doing stairs just get some speed (not to fast) and just pull up on the front like you would off a curb, but with more speed.

sxe fbm rider
11-27-04, 02:52 PM
yea, i did gaps before I could bunny hop, just rode real fast and lifted up. keep trying man.

rice400
11-27-04, 03:56 PM
thanks guys. that's all i needed to know. tomorrow i can't wait to go out and try some stair gaps.

also i can do a bunnyhop a little better. its not the good one for jumping and grinding.

the one i can do is both wheels at the same time. i can get it about 4-5"

haro_rider09
11-27-04, 06:07 PM
damn 3 steps? you might not even have to hop at all lol

rice400
11-27-04, 07:24 PM
well i want to start small so i can learn what to do. when i get good at that i will try 4,5,6 steps

I hate stairs and ledges because i either bottom out on my back tire or I hurt my wrists.

yeah i hate them too. but its somthing to do.

jRC1088
11-30-04, 08:32 PM
To get your wheel off the ground without pedaling, you should throw your but back behind the seat, and pull the handlebars with your arms as your doing it. It's really the easiest way.

bmxrdr88
11-30-04, 09:00 PM
the easiest way i think to bunnyhopping higher is start going over curbs and stuff. if its there dont go around it, go over it.

I'm Practicing Table tops and 180's, Table tops are pretty easy u should try them.
