Living Car Free - Yet another reason to live car-free

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Guy flips after mommy won't let him take car for a spin.
Stabs a bunch of people and ran over a pedestrian:

"The suspect was enraged when his step dad entered into an argument Gelman was having with his mother about her refusal to allow him to take the family Lexus out for a spin, police said."

Uh, this has nothing to do with being car free. Nice of you to try and turn a tragedy into something to push your agenda.

Seriously, manchild throwing a temper tantrum and going on a killing spree is, if anything, a reason to cower in fear inside a 4,000 pound protective tank.

Been gone for 7 months, but I see nothing has changed on this discussion list. Same old, same old agenda driven nonsense being pedaled as living car free issues by the usual suspects on this allegedly bicycling related list.

Oh, we were up to MUCH worse shenanigans while you were gone. The mods will be glad you're back to keep us in line. ;) Or at least try to! And the n00bs will enjoy getting to know you.

Seriously, welcome back ILTB.

Just where have you been hiding? We all figured you had an extended contract in P & R.

Didn't work. The homicidal nut-case pulled a motorist out of his car, stabbed him, and then took his car.

Did this kind of stuff happen routinely decades ago and we were all blissfully unaware of it because we didn't get everyone's local news all over the country, or has our culture become a bit more violent? It just seems like we have a Manson family drop-out reappearing every other month lately.

Yes and No.

From the general statistics violent crime has been on the decline. However with 24 hour news channels and the internet we see many more things that would have never left the local news circuit. I saw a study a few years back that suggested that crime was a percentage of population and remained fairly static. My only problem with that theory is that as social mores change so do the standards that determine what a crime is. A hundred years or so ago cocaine use was not considered a crime, today it is.

If he's been in Iraq, I've been selling guacamole to the North Koreans. (In other words, I'm skeptical.)

Definitely more pics. That one looks like the back of the walmart in Davenport. And it's hard to believe that you'd be riding a softtail bike.

Incredible! I was listening to this killer on the radio but simply suspected he went insane. I did not know the motorcar was the trigger that set off this multiple murder.

In a way, it does not surprise me since the motorcar brings so much anger and violence in this world. I remember a number of fights in my family over who drives the family car. All you need is someone with mental illness and bad things can happen real fast.

If I thought you were not being obnoxious, I'd post some. I read what is written and can't detect any humor in your replies calling me a liar. Before you ask personal questions about the experience the answer is "NOYDB."

I was just in North Korea a few days ago and I saw no guacamole.... I had to pay almost 5,000 won ($4.50) for a damn avocado in South Korea this morning so I can't imagine what they might be going for up north! ;)

I'm sorry that my attempt at good-natured ribbing went over like two-week old guacamole. I won't ask to see your photos, but I will be interested if you choose to post them. :)

Apology accepted. Suggest that next time use a smily icon when ribbing.

I went to JSA (Joint Security Area). The only place along the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) that North and South Korea meet. At the center of JSA is a small building consisting of a single room with a long meeting table at the center. This is were all military and diplomatic talks take place. At either side of the room there are South and North Korean dudes with a machine gun. They have been there for over fifty years, staring at each other and trying to look meaner than the other one. I was in this room and allowed to walk across it, where I was technically in North Korea. ;)

I would love to go one day but its quite expensive. To the tune of several thousands of dollars per day and all of it goes directly to the regime, which I am not comfortable with. You can wach an excellent documentary by a film crew that was allowed in a few years go. It won lots of awards and can be viewed for free here: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/welcome-to-north-korea/
