hi there...
just hoping you would share your thoughts on something...
so a friend of mine is selling off a Bianchi Super Pista frameset....its basically in impeccable condition, and a few years old. i think maybe its an 07, but my familiarity with bianchis is very minimal.
im pretty sure it is this one:
http://02d5d89.netsolhost.com/images/BianchiPistaConcept_07.jpg
im just curious, how much would you offer a friend for such a frameset? it is used and older but in very good condition, comes with headset, bottom bracket, seatpost.
i add the modifier "friend" because i dont want to low ball him, but i also would like a fair price for what it is.
like i said, i really know nothing about Bianchis, so i am unfamiliar with how much this frame went for a few years back, how much pista concepts retain their value, what someone in the know would offer for it, what it's msrp was in 07, etc.
picking it up off the ground, it was amazing how light it is.
anyway...
any help is appreciated.

before you buy, does the frame fit you perfectly? if not you should pass, if so, read on:
$600 for just the pristine frameset = friend price asking price without being a dick.
i'd give him $650 for everything else if the bb and seatpost are something decent.
it's price hasn't moved for 3+ years at around $±750USD
(from a stranger and pristine condition i'd say $700 is already a great deal because its not too often you'll find one in decent shape cuz most concept owners somehow are douchbags who treat this alu frame like its steel, not to mention one in your correct size)
and if he doesnt give a sh* about money then tell him $500 and you'll just got a concept at the price of a steel pista frameset
*sidenote: the '07 model is not the Super Pista name, it was still called the Bianchi Pista Concept up to '09
TL : DR
$600USD

thanks for the reply mucky!
fellow bay area dweller? well actually i live in modesto now :( but used to live in oakland, SF, treasure island, and san rafael....
anywho yes it fits me perfectly. its a 59 cm. ive never been fitted, but i did an online fit calculator with my GF's help measuring me and the geometry of this frame fits within the calc's recommendation. plus i ride a 58 cm which feels just the tiniest bit small.
funny you should post your advise, he actually messaged me 5 minutes ago right after i made this post, and he offered me 600 for it. so 600 for a pretty much pristine 07 pista concept, with bb and headset and seat post. He dosn't exaclty "not give a sh*t about money" considering i think hes only working part time and i have a relatively cushy salary job with cheap living expenditures.....plus i think he said something about being cool with payments (like 3 payments of 200)
hmmm. looks like i might be the owner of a super pista. never thought i would. ive always been more into steel, classic lugs and the lot....but this is a beatiful frame and its just soooo incredibly light.
ok thanks :)

So which one is it, the Pista Concept or the Super Pista.
Different :)

MSRP in 2007 for the complete Pista Concept was $1400. It came with SRAM Omnium cranks and tubular wheels. The price was dropped $100 from 2006, due to the downgrade from Sugino 75 cranks. http://www.bianchiusa.com/archives/2007-bicycles/track/pista-concept/ The frameset could be purchased separately for $700. The BB in your "friend's" frame is useful only if you'll be using a SRAM Omnium crankset and the stock 27.2mm seatpost is really cheap, not worth more than $10. One thing to look at is the condition of the dropout stainless steel inserts. They get chewed up over time and replacements are difficult to find. Also, lightness comes at a price. The main tubing is very thin and easily dented. Finally, the stock carbon fork is not drilled for a brake, if that matters to you.
Oh, and one more thing. Make sure the seat binder bolt threads are not stripped / damaged. The steel bolt threads directly into the aluminum frame.

Nice bike, though. Don't go overboard with celeste, please.

Real question is do you have the 1000$-1500$ total needed to purchase and then build said frameset with a worthy component setup? I mean, you can put eighthinch stuff on there but please dont disrespect a pista concept in such said way.

hmm i dont think its a sram omnium bottom bracket. i have those on one of my bikes. i think he might have dura ace cranks on it now....i could be wrong. could be a standard square taper. something for me to look into.
the dropouts are pretty much pristine. looks as if he put the rear wheel on and never moved it. i havn't seen the dropouts with the rear wheel off, but everywhere else on the dropout looks untouched.
i dont think the seatpost was stock. i know he bought JUST the frameset, then built from there, so although i dont know what make the seatpost is, its definitely not the stock one (unless he bought that one seperately, which i doubt. he is like me and would prefer to save a bit for nicer components)...
and im not sure whether it is the stock fork or not. it dosn't have the "bianchi" down the side, although it looks very similar in shape to the picture above. it does say "alucarbon" on it. and also, it DOES have drilling for a front brake. so im not sure if it is the actual fork that came with the frame, or aftermarket. he says it came with the frameset though.
and i noticed the seat bolt goes directly into the frame....i will definitely check that out. although knowing this guy im sure its in impecable condition. everything he owns he seems to keep good care of.

well, i wouldn't necessarily call him "bro" status.
he is the husband of my girlfriend's friend, and we have hung out a dozen times or so, but we definitely get along well.
and im not exactly sure what he does for a living, but i think my current situation lends for being a little more frivolous with extra spending money....being that he is down to take payments of 200, paying 200 each payday seems very doable.

while i might have jackassed this frame with origin8 parts a few years ago, this is more of a long term project frame that will hang in my room until i find worthy components for cheap prices on ebay. i definitely troll ebay for deals, i would definitely not be in any hurry to put this build together. i already have a bike to ride. or two. lol....but i was thinking of building this up as an actual track bike. you know, for riding on the track. not that there is one super close to me, but i would definitely drive the hour+ to ride at the Hellyer every other weekend or so. then again i might be a jerk and ride it to work a few days out of the week lol

With not wanting to low ball a friend, I would offer them $650 if it is prestine condition, meaning no dents and scratches away from the usual wear and tear of its 3 years in existence.

A bianchi dealer who knows what they're doing has you covered. I had my 05's track frame savers replaced last week after they came in from bianchi. They are the same for both the super pista and the concepts.

apart from a scuff or two, its pretty much pristine yes! he does have one sticker on it lol, but i have goof off.
considering he is offering it to me for 600, and as individual payments (3 x 200), you thinking i should go for it? he said he bought it for 750. i think he mentioned he bought it right when it came out.

That's a great deal when you consider his asking price and especially the condition! To be honest, it's pretty hard to even find a dented/ abused sad pcept for $600 because of the hype.... And when you pay his asking price, you're not low balling him. In addition, you gotta love the athena white, its the colorway that pops out the most in any setting.

its truly a beautiful frame thats for sure. i was never really into bianchis, especially since i tend to be adverse to things that are overhyped, but seeing it in person for the first time and then picking it up off the ground and being amazed at how light it was even with some velocity deep vs on it i kind of fell in love lol

Damn, it took me like 3 or 4 months to sell mine for 400. It was the monster size though.

Funny illdthedj, you buy the Tommaso Augusta when I get the Augusta
and now you are getting a pista concept and I almost have the cash to buy the white pista concept I have wanted forever!

It was a 61cm, More less the same condition. It had a few scratches but nothing that gouged the paint and no dents. It then went on to be sold by the buyer for 450. I dont know where it is now. Also it was the 2009 model.
I'm sure location has a lot to do with it. I tried selling it on here for 700 shipped and no one bit for months.

Lol I bet it was a 59 or 61 for giants...
On this note; what size is the one your friend is selling?
Mine is a 53 '05 in black with the army lettering and apparently it is very sought out, especially by the scene kiddies, every time I come across a fixie kid, I get a compliment and then the question if I'm selling it or not.
So probably size does factor in. But nonetheless in my opinion $600 is a bargain for a pista concept kept in good condition considering the MSRP I paid for my frameset; that's right 1st owner :D.
Heck, if you were not to even be such a good friend, you can always flip it for profit in the bay area CL.

lol well his is a 59 cm as well....hes 6'2, im 6'2....crazy that milkcrate sold it for 450....thats the kind of price i would MUCH prefer lol....buuuut considering i can pay 200 every two weeks makes the 600 not so bad. plus, id feel like i was quasi helping him out considering he lives in an expensive apartment in the bay area (all apartments are expensive pretty much there) and im barely paying 400 in rent lol
and yes thats another thing....lets say i never get to building the frame and need money, it looks like these frames hold their value quite well and it would not be hard to sell on the bay area craigslist for as much as i bought it for, maybe a touch more.

Exactly. I love helping friends out, especially when I benefit indirectly as well. For example, my cdale track. :D
And yes bay area living expenses are ridiculously expensive.... let's just say the amount your friend sells his pcept for you is not even enough for a months rent in most decent apartments. I learned the hard way by buying a "nice" house in a "sought out" neighborhood, let's just say it put my bank account back 7 digits.

ouch. yes i am WELL aware of RIDICULOUS rent prices in the bay area. Grew up in marin, moved to LA for school, and when i decided to move back to the bay after school i was flabbergasted by prices for rent.
hence why i first lived on treasure island, the man made island off the real yerba buena island the bay bridge goes thru....rent was affordable there, but i had 3 roommates and they made us sign some papers basically stating "you acknowledge in the event of an earthquake the island might fall into the ocean" lol
then i moved to west oakland. rent was affordable, but this time, FOUR roommates. and west oakland lol....getting called snitch and "cracker ass cracker" was a bit daunting on my ride to the bart station lol
then i moved to the mission in SF, and not the hipster mission. excelsior area of mission, which was seedy at night with gang activity....but at least i was a 3 minute walk to seriously 7 different taquerias (not even exaggerating)

As a native, I totally understand. ;)
To be honest inflated college town rent is not even shocking to me.... just the socal kids down here hehehehe. :p
