I was in this bike shop with the sleekest road bikes I have ever seen. My bike was parked next to them and my wife said my bike is equivalent to a VW whereas those sleek bikes were BMWs and Mercedes.

I like my bike equivalent to Tesla Roadster. Environmentally friendly, simple and quick.

Did someone read the current issue of "bicycle buying guide"? They had a component groups to cars comparison. Not based on country of origin but based on function and intended use.

Several year old motobecane messenger that has had several parts replaced without adding much in the way of actual visual or performance enhancement = I have no idea; all french cars suck and the MM is a reasonable bike. If I'm allowed to go USA since it's a Motobecane USA offering- I suppose it's a riced out ford focus.

I would compare it to a Ford Taurus. One from the ugly years (96-99).

Its reliable enough to get you from point A to point B with not a lot of frills.
Its not particularly attractive enough to catch the eye of thieves (or wimminz).
You don't care when the guy who parks (locks) next to scratches the paint.
Spending money on maintenance isn't a priority; the intent is just to ride it until the wheels fall off (perhaps literally).

Like with a Taurus, you come to accept the fact that, no matter what, you really can't look cool with an SE Draft.
