I'm a 175-lb, 41-y/o roadie looking to get my first mountainbike since 1988. I've read through the FAQ, but have a special request not covered, (at least not that I could find.)

The Salsa Spearfish looks interesting to me. Does anyone have one? How long have you been riding it?

I don't know what to think about the linkage to the seattube, just above the BB. Is it pretty robust?

I'm a 175-lb, 6'2" roadie with a 288W FTP (300+ after this coming Monday), and I'm hoping to take this bike to Catalina, up Cole Grade, perhaps to Slickrock someday, and right here in my backyard in La Costa, CA. I had plenty of mountain and cyclocross experience back in the days before suspension.
No racing aspirations, just spirited and strenuous rides, with the occasional camping trip to Catalina (which means riding a few miles with a 40-50 lb ruck on my back.)

The first bike that jumped up at me is the Stumpjumper Expert FSR, but Taiwan is already doing well enough, and I'd like to buy an American-built bike. Cannondale seemed the solution, but those single-forks look problematic to me. Any opinions on those? Money is almost no object; I'd like to support the local craftsmen if possible.

Any guidance, or even links to earlier, similar threads would much appreciated!

No idea. Just that they're one of the few brands Chuck (Pacific Coast Cycles in Oceanside, the quintessential bearded LBS retro-grouch) carries, and I've been looking around their site. Nothing stating where they're made yet, so you are perhaps right.

Merlin looked promising, but they don't have a dual-suspended bike.
I've always loved the CoMotion Americano Rohloff, but they don't really have mountain bikes either.

Forgot to give you the link:

Scroll just below the fold. Word is they and Surly are both owned by QBP and everything but the Ti frames are outsourced.

If you like the idea of a full-suspension 29er, you owe it to yourself to check out Lenz Sport. They happen to be U.S. made and Devin Lenz is a truly awesome guy.

Now we're talking! The Behemoth looks promising!
Anybody have one, or demo one?
