Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I don't have pic capability just yet, posting from my iPod.
But! I have been in Lake Charles for nearly a year without a
true vintage "find". I have been looking, believe me! Last weekend
I decided to check a pawn shop I hadn't visited in good while.
I drove up and saw an old blue late 70's Schwinn, which turned
out to be a dud. I looked down the row, and something caught
my eye. Bright Turquoise paint, what? White wrap, this might be
something decent? I glance over a little more and see the
familiar curve of a Supercorsa saddle, but it's white? I am walking
what seems like 100mph now,hehe!

Okay enough drama, haha! It turned out to be 1985 Trek 600, in
about what I would call a solid 8.5-9 condition! And yep,I practically
STOLE it for 76 bucks including tax. I've done a little cleaning
and it just keeps looking better! Anyways, just had to brag
and/or share it with the only people who I know would
appreciate such a unique find in a city as small as this.

Anyone know if the 600Series top tube decals are available?

On the home front, the bike shop job is going well. I get a commission
on the repairs I complete, a big help! Though they still can't
understand my passion for these "old pieces of junk". They
think I'm alone in my love for vintage bikes. If they only
knew, right?? Lol! I should have Internet in a week or two,
and I'll be here more often. I promise I will post pics of this
beauty. TTYS!,,,,BD:crash::lol:

Nice score! My Trek 510 was a $37 pawn shop buy and I love the bike. Funny how the speed of the walk increases as you recognize quality components.

That has to be one of the best feelings ever. Rescuing a nice bike from a life of hanging upside down in someones basement or neglected in some pawn shop. They have feelings too!

Weird? Mine has a Reynolds 531CS frame? Did I miscalculate the year?
It has the smoked Shimano 600 group? The s/n says it's an
85 too?

Careful with velocals if you're going to powdercoat over it. The owner told me the decals can take up to 400f, but the decals got way mushy at 350 in my painter's well-regulated oven. It could be that he used a different paper for mine, somehow.

I tried linking but I guess no dice, huh?
I didn't notice anything that said link, or share,
or nada. It only had a send a pic message
option. I guess the entire idea of an "online
album" is lost on them, lol!,,,,BD

Just wanted to drag up the "I found this" thread so it'd be current with the "pics" thread.

Unless I'm missing something, his decals are printed on thin vinyl and no way any vinyl can withstand 400º F, that's getting into silicone's temperature range. Maybe water-slide decal material is something more heat-resistant, but I've never subjected any of those to high heat, they generally seem more fragile than vinyl film.
Nice score, BTW...the saddle alone is probably worth $76 :thumb:
