Mountain Biking - Seat post size

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
When I bought my bike a 2008 Iron Horse Azure Sport I downloaded the specs. It says (Seat Post: EASTON EA30, 31.6MM) ,but on the side of the seatpost it says 27.2
Is there something simple I'm not understanding here.

The only way both could be correct, is if someone added a reducer shim to allow use of the popular 27.2mm post size in a frame made for 31.6mm. If the frame doesn't have a shim, then the specs are incorrect.
