Fifty Plus (50+) - Roll-up Seat Bag

Instead of fishing around in my little seat wedge, I'd like to find a bag that rolls up tightly (and can be squeezed up tightly under the seat).

When I need it, I undo it from the seat, and roll it out on the ground. It has some closed compartments and some open ones. It's very light. Waterproof would be good. Something similar to this (from here (http://www.etsy.com/shop/BikeCozy)):

My wife said she could make me one of those.

I figure it would look neater, and be less noisy and floppy than what I have now (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a39/TromboneAl/M2WithNewStem.jpg).

Looks like a great idea but I don't know of any mass produced. Great home project

There's the Acorn Roll Bag. It's got a good sized zippered pocket and it rolls up around larger objects like a bike lock. It features leather trim and straps in the classic outfitting. Wt 249 grams. There's an evaluation of it in Bicycle Quarterly winter 2009 where they rode with it for 550 miles.

A co-worker/friend had a nice one that he purchased a few years ago at a now defunct LBS. I disremember the brand, but it was pretty simple, looked like it might have had plenty of room. We parted ways (read as: he got done) before I got a chance to get measurements to copy it.

That's similar to my Burley Designs tire sock which folds in half and has a pouch for a folded spare tubular on one half and two more pouches for tools, etc on the other. I don't know if they're still in business, though.

It looks like a great idea. Now you need to perfect it and start production.

Looks like I'm going to make something myself.

I experimented with some designs based on cutting up a bag that had held a beach chair, but then I found that by removing the big plastic insert in my current seat bag, that the bag could fit more tightly against the seat (less rattling, looks neater). When I need something from the bag, I'll take the whole thing off the bike.

There used to be a roll-up bag marketed under the name of Burrito (sp?) out of Calif. somewhere.

Its too small for a taser! And what if you need to carry a can of beer and cigar?

Great idea! I have a larger rollup pouch that I can use off the bike. It is great as a portable traveling toolkit, but I, too, would like to have a smaller version for under-the-saddle use. I also miss the old school cylindrical front bags -- my 40-year-old Bellwether is still holding together and serves me well on my Peugeot, but when it finally rots out, I don't have a really slick replacement option.

The only one I know of is the Acorn roll up. They look really nice, but good luck getting one. That is the achetype of a mom&pop business. They only make what they need to make when they decide they have time to make them. I like the burrito rollup myself but, the more I ride, the less I carry.

I have a roll-up bag that I bought from Carradice. To be honest, I hate it. It seems slower/harder to use than a bag you can just zip open and reach inside.

It's in my box of "things to put on eBay when I have a minute."

Haven't had to look for one for a while but we motorcyclists use roll up tool bags all the time. Check some motorcycle gear sites. I'll take a look and see if I can find a site.
