Hi, all. I've a touring bike with a 28-38-48 triple, and an 11-28 8 speed casette. Already, at this point, my tiagra gs (long cage) rear der. shouldn't be working, as its maximum cog size (according to Shimano's spec docs) is 27t. It looks as if I could even fit up to a 32t cog in there, and the b-tension screw isn't even half-screwed in. Anybody else had a similar experience with a tiagra rear derailleur? I'm looking to upgrade to a shimano 11-34 casette, or at least an 11-32 casette - does it seem that I'll be able to get away with it? I can post pictures at request, I'm just lazy at the moment.

SGS is what they designate as the longer, longest cage type, I'd seek one of those out .

Got my tiagra to go to 11-32, no big deal. Only prob is maxing out the b screw had the pulleys pretty far away from the little cogs, and so shifting was a little balky in those gears, not too bad tho.
11-34, tried it, no can do.
11-30 within best comfort zone.
They use that derailleur on a lot of entry level triples; I dont think the cage is really quite long enough.

@ fietsbob - My tiagra is the longest type... shimano changed the naming, I think, sometime in the mid 2000s as compared to older models, but I'm 100% sure this is the longest-cage model of tiagra. Bought stock on bicycle in 2009, if that helps.
@ Gerry Hull - thanks for the input, I'll probably seek out a deore or relative equivalent rear d.
Any experience with Nashbar long-cage MTB derailleurs?

Tiagra is a common choice on mid priced bike's OEM builds , to keep the price down.
Microshift Rebrands stuff for Performance/Nashbar who Order in volume.
They are is trying to get a foothold in that budget parts Niche.
[If you order enough, Bulk volume, they would put Your Name on it..
I'd Bump you Up in Price to Deore .. no real need for the top line stuff , for the average cyclist.
