Mountain Biking - Do bar ends and twist shifters mix?

Hi all, I have a Marin Bobcat Trail (4 years old) with SRAM twist shifters. I'm trying work out the logistics of putting bar ends on the bike, if it's even possible. The current grips look as though they're slid onto the handlebars - there's no cap on the end of the bar, just the end of the grip. I'm presuming that I can just get shorter grips so that a bit of bar extends beyond the grip for me to clamp the bar end on. Am I right? Any recommendations for grips and barends?

cut the ends off the grips, bolt on the bar ends, and go ride.

I reccommend the ergogrips. they are bar ends that do not stick straight out front. they aremore on the side of the bar and face fprward like a bar end. they are excellent for different hand positions and you can twist shift while using them too as well as light braking. Ive got a set and use them with my gripshifts. they are the bomb on long rides when my hands get tired and numb. I can even corner with them in tight corners. I cant do that with regular bar ends. they feel almost like roadie bars when turning, its really cool. they can be gotten at Performance Bikes and other places for about $25 a set.with them you just cut your grips off a little and mount them on the end of the bar and they even help the grips stick better

You can move both pieces of grips about 1/2 to 3/4" in and then mount the bar ends. It's easy. Inner grip is bolted. If you can't move the outer one, get some Windex and a small screwdriver to carefully pry up the outer grip so you can spray some Windex in there. It will move easily.
