I've come to realize this part of Orlando and the way I take to school are not bike friendly/safe enough to ride in the road. I got hit by a car today again (2nd time in the last two months) My bike is fine, I got pretty bad road rash. The way I take to school is a two lane road with a college that has thousands of students that go to it. There is no sidewalk for this stretch so that's not an option. My only other option I can think of is to get a bike that can ride through the grass. I still want it to be fixed, I was wondering if you guys could recommend me any bikes that can support big tires that aren't supper expensive. So far I'm looking at the Kilo-OS but even that is a little expensive.

What is normally your position in the road? I go to a large community college and ride on narrow streets too but I havent had trouble. Take your space in the lane, be assertive. If you ride like a push over they will drive all over you

$349 and it has 2.2" knobby tires.

-or-

$319 but you'd need to add a cog to the disc mount on the rear wheel to ride fixed.

i ride very aggressive. what happened was the lane got smaller on this one part of the road due to construction, so instead of moving to the left where he had room, this guy instead tried running me off the road and hit the side of me causing me to flip over the side of his car.. he slowed down.. then sped off.

also thanks for those links. i'll check out both.

Orlando and Tampa are two of the worst places to ride. Glad you aren't seriously injured. I hope you got the driver's info and gave it to the cops so he gets pulled for aggressive driving/hit and run. People need to share the road.

did you get his plate? or at least a good description of his car? Back when I lived in Maine, it was not always fun to ride. semi trucks would not even consider you. so i understand very well. i would still stay in the lane. take the whole thing...

******* drivers would be my guess. Orlando is even worse than Tampa from what I've seen, and that's really saying something. They get angry when they see a cyclist on the road and do dangerous, stupid stuff.

doubtful, people get pardoned for killing cyclists with a motor vehicle. Most of the time that is called vehicular manslaughter......

Hit twice in 2 months?
So what are you doing wrong?
When things get that narrow, take the whole lane.

A nice set of cross tires will run you about $50... about $300 less than the cheapest new fixed MTB rig. I've been running cross tires on my SE for a while now, and they'll tackle grass with no problem.
