Hi, I've always been scale shy, but after too many years of pretending to ignore my expanding waistline, it's time to fess up, stare reality in the face, and do something about it.

So, step one: assess the damage.

To that end, can anyone recommend a decent scale? Accuracy and decent cost are the most important considerations for me. I don't want to spend tons of $, and I've been skeptical of the body fat measurement function on scales, but I'd pony up for it if you can convince me that they work and they're helpful. Any other bells and whistles that have been helpful on your journey, or is a scale a scale?

I use a Health o meter model HDM770DQN-05 digital scale I bought at WalMart for somewhere between $18-$20. It has a weight tracking feature, but I've never used that yet. It takes a CR2032 lithium coin-cell type battery.

Body fat % seems pretty accurate.

Body water % is vital. Who cares if you're down 2 Lbs. if you're dehydrated?

Well worth it imo, $130.

What you do with the information is up to you.

I use a Tanita, which I've been pretty happy with. However, the body fat measurement is not very accurate and varies plus or minus 3% from day to day. If you're really wanting to measure body fat, then spring for an Omron monitor. Even that is hit or miss, though.

I have this cheap one from Target for 29.99. Works like a charm, good up to I believe 430 or 440 lbs. Which was important for me at the time I bought it. :)

Tanita says to not measure body fat % daily.......weekly then average.

Actually mine is spot on as long as I weigh in the same time every day.
