i don't like all the cables coming out from under the stem, going down the head tube. Then you can't stare at the pretty head badge.
Come to think of it though, with non-aero cables, there would only be one per side, so maybe it wouldnt be too bad.
I like it how it is now good enough though.
btw thanks for the compliments. Bluemels showed up today, so I think I'll have to throw those on soon.

What a great build! I love it. I wouldn't go with honey for the bar tape, it will make the saddle look weird and mismatched, and the saddle colour looks beautiful with the frame. If you stick with that green tape you'll find it will fade pretty quickly and blend in with the rest of the bike more. If you do switch tape, I would go cloth - then you could use a different colour without it looking weird. Two leathers in two different colours I don't get. Frankly I think you've committed to having a Green Machine with the saddle, but I mean that as a compliment.
P.S. I mount my bar-end cables exactly like you do, precisely because I like the way it looks. I've also found the Campy bar-ends shift better with the cable set up this way as opposed to coming out at the stem, but that's probably just subjective.

Now sporting new bar end covers to match a little better, as well as a Carradice bag I moved over from another bike, and toe clips. Sticking with the honjo's over the alu bluemels because the bluemels are way too wide for the rear, plus i'm happy with the chromed honjos. The only thing missing is a proper pump, which may very well be rectified this weekend.

Bummer !
Well, at least it is possible to source another crank arm. (Won't be cheap though.)
(PS - Beautiful job on the build!)
(PPS another possibility - also expensive.)

well, i rode this bike 64 miles a few weeks ago and 120 this past weekend. Overall, I'm very happy with it.
The exception is the campy front derailleur. It really sucks with a wide range freewheel such as the 5sp 14-34 that I'm running. The cage is just too skinny and it is really hard to get it to stop rubbing. It can be done but if you're shifting the rear a lot it can really be a pain.
That's why I took it off and ran the bike as a 5 speed 70 some miles into the century this past weekend :)
So I guess I'll be looking for a nice period looking front mech that will actually shift well with my setup.
Any suggestions?
Something that works well but looks the part....

Brian, I should have thought of this on Saturday, but with some of the same issues on my Ken Ryall, I used a fairly basic Huret FD, and it worked great. Actually, it's not on the bike now as I'm being a Campy snob for that one, so I think I'll just send it to you.

You're talking about a NR front derailer? That's odd.
How do you like your second generation Rally RD?

Looks a lot like a 1969 Dawes Galaxy I bought new in 1969, from Pop's Bicycles in Santa Ana California....

Just add a spacer and widen from the rear. That is what I did on my Rivendell w/ 11-36th, 10 speed rear & 46/30 front. Old NR fd works very well. I just used an old chrome cable stop. I am a slob at heart....

yeah I am talking about that. It sucks the big one.
The Rally is ok. Not great but acceptable. You have to overshift a little, but it's like butter compared to the front mech!

I thought about that. I also though about taking the bolts out and bending the crap out of it to see what happens.

Neal, I really appreciate that but it's not needed. I know you have a basement Sheldon Brown would be envious of but I have a bunch of stuff hanging around I can try out to :) That is if I don't end up using the same one in an altered form....
