I need to get a ball... how much does yours weigh?
Are they expensive? Any advice in selecting the proper ball for the sport?

Post pics of your balls.

If you're an adult, get the 16 pounder (er...7kg?). That's the standard (and biggest) in the U.S. And you'll want fingertip grips for better control. I haven't bowled in ~15 years...got tired of an 8 month season in league bowling. It was fun camaraderie though. You'll want a fit by someone who knows their stuff. How you throw determines how and where the holes get drilled. This is so the ball's weight lends itself to hook the way you want it and to the degree you want. If you're going to bowl in a league and know some folks that do, get their input. Good luck!

So I should talk to a pro shop first? I don't know how I throw, and if it's right.

They'll watch you throw some with a ball that's close enough to get an idea...even if it's with one of the crappy lane balls. If you've never bowled then tell them that.

This ^

If the pro shop is separate from the alley and they don't have a lane there, videotape yourself throwing so they have something to help figure out how you throw and gear the ball toward your throwing style. They'll also want know what house you plan on bowling at. A good shop will know how the lanes behave at many places, so that will weigh into the ball choice as well.

A decent ball can vary between $80-$250. Luckily, the ball that works best for me was $90. Now, if I could just pull my game together this season...

Good luck! Bowling's a great time to hang out with friends and down some beer.

I'd actually go for a 15 lber. The gear now a days rolls so good and hits very hard it's a waste going to 16. Most pros don't even do 16 any more. Talk to a pro and have him watch you roll a few.

Any questions, see my user name.....:)

Bzaat!
Good guess though. Genre is correct, but you're about ten years too young. I will be astounded (and perhaps a little concerned) if someone gets it without Googling.

Heck, I even googled and didn't find it.

if you want any respect, you need to have a clear ball that contains a skull

It was a terrible 80's movie, entirely deserving of MST3K treatment. But the scene when she finally announces she's actually a girl in drag.
The quote was from the clueless gym coach who was such a bowling fiend he didn't notice her pattern of cutting gym class (for obvious reasons.)

Janeane Garafalo (sp) used a bowling ball that I think had her fathers head in it in MysteryMen as her superpower.

Has anyone seen five holes put in a bowling ball?

Movie guess: The Big Labowsky
Skull Ball: Good luck finding one of those. They were a limited release for the movie Mystery Men.

I havnt bowled in a long time and I am not trying to brag, but I am proud to admit that when I was 17, I bowled a perfect game in STL missouri at crestwood bowl during midnight bowling, the whole black light, colored disco light event.
My picture is on a plaque on the entrance wall even to this day :) And I was under the influence!

My old bowling ball smelled like roses. I kid you not. Smelled like roses.

It was good time asking all my buddies to smell by ball.
