Good point: it's for a 2010 Trek 2.1. All I know is I have 10 speeds (Shimano 105) and it says 700c on the tire.

I think that what you want to do is to just swap out the rear tire for the trainer, not buy a whole wheel with a cassette. You might want to look on craigslist or ebay for a used wheel but most people will want to sell them as a set. It looks like the 2.1 comes with a Shimano 105-5600 or 105-5700 11-28 cassette. It's probably a 5600 if its a 2010 model.
The Shimano 105 cassette is about $90-100 by itself and a cheap wheelset will cost you another $350.
Somebody I know who trains a lot for triathalon told me not to buy the special trainer tires but to just go out to Canadian Tire and get a cheap 700c x 23 tire. He found them to be harder than the trainer specific tires and that they last a lot longer (not to mention cheap .. less than $20 as opposed to $70).

I already bought a trainer tire, it was $45.
I'm trying to avoid changing the tires all the time when the weather improves. I was hoping I could buy a used wheel from someone who upgraded.
Anything will do as long as it fits on my bike.

for example. Since you're looking for a 700c X 23 with a Shimano 105 cassette there's always somebody who would be upgrading to Ultegra or DuraAce with a new wheelset who would probably gladly sell you the rear wheel.

You`re in Toronto so the best way to avoid some stupid Post Canada rates would be to buy REALLY local.

I got a wheel from a LBS at a fair price and a Shimano 105 cassette for $62 at the bike show. The wheel is a bit un-true and by the looks of it it can be fixed but it's good enough for the trainer.
