Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Ordered my shoes

:thumb: Nashbar "Panic Deals" sale... Got a pair of Lake CX170. Lake is the only manufacturer to make wide sizes (that I found anyway) and Nashbar had them 57% off retail. Got 3 pairs of socks too. Wool for the winter/early spring/late fall, and 2 pairs of summer socks.

i have wide feet as well.
sidi makes wide shoes, and i've tried on a number of Specialized "body geometry" shoes, and they fit very comfortably. actually going to buy some in the next week or two.


also, on the "summer socks" thing.
i've found that Costco sells some Adidas socks that are essentially identical as "summer cycling socks" (http://www.shopadidas.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4000873&cid=Q02643&shopGroup=R), only you can get a 6 pack for $10 instead of having to pay $10 a pair (or more) for these "cycling specific" socks. <-- they're made of the same materials, even have thinner (see through) material on the top of the foot, as well as a compression ring around where the arch is at.
the socks in the link above are almost identical to the ones you can get in a 6 pack at Costco (i think the ones at costco are a year older styles).

I should be receiving my shoes from Nashbar today! I order the Nashbar Multi-Purpose Mountain Shoes. This is my first attempt at cycling shoes and clipless pedals. I was a little hesitant to get shoes online, but they seem to have a decent return policy.

These were $5 a pair, so not too bad. The wool socks were $10.

Sweet. I looked a bunch of stuff on Nashbar's panic deals, but didn't pull the trigger on anything.... I'm actually done buying cycle stuff for a while (lots of money spent on the handlebar/seat upgrade.)

You've checked out the bolt compatibility issues with all of those vis-a-vis your new shoes? I'm not saying any of them won't work, just that you might want to double-check if you haven't already.

They are 3 hole and 2 hole compatible. Speedplays come with the adapter plate for either. I'll make sure before I order pedals though.

I've been back and forth on the Speedplays and SPD's and finally decided the Speedplays are really nice for me. I love the float and it seems to reduce the hot spots on longer (60-100 mile) rides.

I can always put the SPDs on the daughter's bike once we get it... They have a nice wide platform so she can ride on the platform side while she gets used to the idea of clicking in. hmmmmmm........ Guess I should start saving my pennies to buy the speedplay pedals.

No need to save my $$ for pedals... A friend of mine tried some speedplays for a while and ended up going back to his Keo Classics, so he's giving me the speedplays! SCHAWEET!!
