Any suggestions on setting up/adjusting a front derailleur for SRAM Red with a 54 tooth front chainring on a Kestrel 4000 Pro TT bike? I have an extremely rough transition up and down with every scenario attempted. Any suggestions??
It's not that different than a 53t so there shouldn't be anything special involved. Make sure all the basis adjustments are spot on, and maybe back off the outer limit a hair for a more aggressive shift.
In the dark ages front cages were malleable and you could tweak the inner front tip for better shifting, but most modern FD cages crack if you try that. Possibly setting the FD slightly toed out might help, but you're limited in how much you can do that.
Also, is your 54t outer phased to work with the inner the way the original crankset was. If not, try rotating the inner ring one position at a time find the one that gives the best phasing and shift response. Having the chain correctly phased to engage at the shift gate makes a big difference. That's what puts the hyper in hyperglide.
