Bicycle Mechanics - When to regrease

I currently commute about 8 miles a day, rain or shine. When I am at work, the bike sits outside with no seat on it (the seat has a quick release and I don't want to come out of work and find my seat was stolen). At home, I keep the bike indoors.

I was wondering how often I should regrease my bearings (hub and bottom bracket). I currently use Finish Line grease if that has any bearing on it.

I think once per year should do.

I will leave the greasing advice to better mechanics than myself. I just wonder if you use a cork or anything to cap the seat tube while the seat is off.

Once a year, in Sept before winter starts and its still pleasant enough to maintain bikes outside.
The type of grease is not too critical . I use a generic white lithium bike grease. but I do use lots of it. The more grease you pack in, the less room for ingress of water or grime.
Always replace the ball bearings, and replace the cones if worn or pitted.

Maybe you should ditch the QR seatpost clamp for a bolt. An imperial sized allen bolt will out-fox most theives. You can also get security designs like Torx from any hardware shop.
An open seat-tube is not a good idea, but if water does get in, a drainage hole drilled into the BB shell will allow it to get out.
