Wondering if all 700c rims are the same width, and thus any 700c tire can be put on them, or if there are some tires that wont fit some rims. I have a pair of sun rims model mz14, does this mean their 14mm? i have a set of 700c x 35 cx tires on them now and wanted a good touring tire that would fit this rim. any recomendations?? can i throw 37s on them?

I did a Google search about a year ago and found a table of rim widths vs acceptable tire sizes. I think Harris Cyclery might have one. My 38 mm tires were mounted on 17 mm rims. Thats 17 mm measured inside the rim between the edges. I went to 15 mm wide rims to use 25 mm tires. One of the motivations was the large weight savings of the new wheels. Most road rims apparently are 15 mm and are good down to 23 mm tires. My wife runs 28 mm on her 15 mm rims.

I don't think I'd like 35 mm tires 14 or even 15 mm rims. I know I wouldn't want my old 38 mm. However, you need to find that chart to see if it's acceptable.

I found a printout of that table. No listing of 14 mm. The table goes:13mm, 15 mm, 17 mm, 19 mm, ------ 25 mm.

The 15 mm is good from 23 mm to 32 mm tires. The 17 mm is good from 25 mm to 37 mm tires.

You want to buy my old 17 mm wheels?

The table was at www.sheldonbrown.com/tire_sizing.html

no thanks, but thanks for asking. My wheels came stock w/ 35s, thats why i was slightly confused by looking at that chart.

You might check the width. I find I can't live with out a vernier caliper and a 15cm (6") scale.
