The earliest, most annoying weather related thread of 2011.

Just in from a solo 'almost rode my age' ride - yes, I know, no photos so it didn't happen, but I was out for about 3 hours in the mid 20 kphs, so close

And now, I just switched on the a/c for the first time this year, and the thermothing says 86 F

(and wife left a couple of days ago to take daughter skiing. Not jealous at all. Oh no, not at all. It's better here, all aloney on my owney. They'll have a difficult time inching down the mountains without me showing the way. I mean, I know spouse was a Californian racer and ski instructor, but that was a long time ago)

Sigh

I just shoveled six inches of snow from my sidewalks and driveway. I don't know whether to hate you or hate myself for living here. Guess I'll just try not to think about it.

Uh - kind of off the subject but how's life in Bahrain these days?

I'm not hatin'; 86 degrees is getting near the UPPER limit for me to have a good, involved ride like that, so I can wait for the upper 40's. May hit 50's during my vacation, so I WILL BE PEDALIN'!

I worked outside last night in snow drifting up to my knees. When I went home at 05:00 a.m., I would have had to multiply the temperature by more than six to reach 86*F.

Um...ugh....oh yes, I feel your pain.

Sounds like you think you've won. ;) Enjoy the bachelor time while you can.

Here, we just had 13+ inches of snow. And, if I multiplied last night's temperature by six Celsius would be colder than Fahrenheit!

86 would be too hot for me right now, I'm not in good enough shape for that kind of temperature. OTOH, we had some 65F days a week ago, that was wonderful.

You beat the temp in the Arizona desert too. Its been only topping out at about 70 lately.

Life is calm, actually. Have a look on-line at Gulf Daily News, Bahrain's English Language newspaper for a broader view. Especially the letters page.

The international news is lazy, and loves a good upset. The country is not as reported in many ways - not 'oil rich' : the refinery in which i work exports 250,000 barrels per day of which 40,000 is Bahraini - the rest is Saudi, refined under license. The Pearl Roundabout, the centre of the protest encampment, is a small traffic circle, not a large public space - certainly no equivalent to Tiananmen

There are grievances, certainly - however the protest marches are hugely outnumbered by the 'support' marches.

I, like the majority here, hope that the matter will be resolved by dialogue and concession. That won't sell as much advertising bundled in inflamatory 'news', though
