Well, first off I am very new to cycling. I am also 6'3 and about 255. My wife has recently took to cycling as a form of cross training, she was an all american swimmer in college. She rides a Trek 1500 discovery channel road bike. A friend of ours has let me ride his Trek 5.0 pilot a few times and I'm now hooked. I have been looking and trying to gather info on what kinda of bike a bigger guy like myself should buy. I have around $1200 to spend. The went to a bike shop near me and they said I should get a 61cm framed bike. They only had one bike in my size in stock and it was a fuji Roubaix 3.0. I have read some good reviews. I would like some input if that would be a good choice for me? Also, they can order in a Fuji Roubaix ACR 3.0 in my size for $1000. My other options are used bikes from craigslist. The used one I am leaning towards is a 2006 Trek 2200 ZR with a 60cm frame. Would that bike be a decent option for me? I am just starting out but I can see easily riding around 100 miles weekly for fitness, not commuting. I liked the way my friends trek 5.0 pilot rode and he said it was a "hybrid" with a more upright position. I have read that the Giant Defy bikes are the same "hybrid" riding position, would that be a decent choice? My biggest concern is something and can take the abuse of a bigger guy like myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
