General Cycling Discussion - Anyone Know Anything About "Canyon" Bikes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I believe I've come across a company(could be French), that makes bikes for bigger/taller folks(like myself), but, have no idea what this company is about, how good their bikes are, their prices, etc. They claim to carry/make bikes up to size 66cm.... Maybe someone here knows something about them?

I think they're German. There's a Wikipedia page on them. Apparently they supply a couple different pro teams, triathalon and the European tours.

I would *assume* that a German bike company that's been in business for 25 years hasn't got to where they are by building crap. It's certainly worth an e-mail, huh?

Yeah, read their Wiki page, looks interesting. You're right, they do have some sharp looking bikes. Im curious what their price points are though? You're right, might have to send them an email....

Hi there

I know a bit about the company but only as a new owner of one of their bikes - the Roadlite 6.0 (http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=2105).

Yeah, read their Wiki page, looks interesting. You're right, they do have some sharp looking bikes. Im curious what their price points are though?I started riding again, after a long period away from bikes (merely recreational), last year to lose some weight and get a bit fitter. My initial purchase was a Giant CRS4 and after deciding to get a road bike I searched the web for months (it seemed like years :)) and I finally came upon the Canyon site. I was hesitant about purchasing a bike on-line without a 'professional fit' from a LBS but I finally bit the bullet just before last Christmas, I entered my measurements ln their size calculator and it recommended a 66cm frame. That caused a bit of panic as I'm not an expert on bike geometry and this seemed a rather large frame to me - more days of research (including these forums) and it seemed like this really was the correct size for me (I'm 190cm & 96cm inseam) with their frame geometry. An order was placed and the bike arrived in 6 days from Koblenz (in Germany, as mentioned above), it's an excellent bike very responsive and a stiff frame that's also comfortable on moderately long (for me) rides of 60-80km.

You don't say where you're located but if you're in the USA you may be out of luck, I think they've suspended their distribution in the USA until they sort out future plans for distribution there - I believe I saw that on their web-site but can't find it now. Other than that, most countries are covered (especially in Europe, I'm in France BTW). The pricing is also on their web site although it's on the individual bike page rather than as a single price list, there's also complete specifications and geometry details on those pages.

I did have to contact the Customer Services department a with a few novice question and their response was prompt, courteous and answered professionally. I can certainly recommend the company and the bike itself is a pleasure to ride.

Yeah, Im in the states bud, (CA) thanks for the heads up...they are some nice looking bikes for sure......I finally saw the price points, after looking through the site some more, very reasonable. I can wait...I have a friend in England, might be able to have it sent to him, and them to me..... they only listed one bike in a size 66cm(the Roadlite I think it was called), but they had a few in size 64cm....

Thanks for the wonderful info my friend......I loved that RL bike too when I saw it. Enjoy your bike.

Canyon have a good reputation in Europe - I think you should find plenty of reviews on BikeRadar. And you could post on the forum there if you want more reassurance.
