Southern California - Just finished moving to North Fontana (Summit Exit from 15)

So haven't gone riding yet, but the roads appear to be pretty friendly. I think Lytle Creek is not far. I guess as long as it isn't too windy, riding locally will be better than where I previously lived (Euclid/60)

Anyone know any good rides in the area ?

Aw man, that is agreat riding area. I've ridden up there many times. I ride up to Cherry anmd WIlson. THen I take Briodlepath to the road right next toeh fwy. Contineu onup to Sierra,. make a right on GlenHelen Pkwy.

Unde the fwy to Glen Helen Park. Sometimes I ride east to SanBerdo on Devore Rd. (Palm and Kendal Dr)

Or conitue up straight to the top of the road above the fwy clib to the top, go left then down Kenwood to old Cajon Rd that takes you up to Cleghorn (Cajon Pass).

I'd rather go this way than the tight roads of Lytle Creek. It gets windy but it's nice riding.

Welcome to the neighborhood! I live in Hunters ridge NW corner of the interchange. I ride once a week (sat or sun) you are welcome to join me. There are lots of good rides in the area. I used to ride more locally but I have been tryign to grow some mountain goat legs. You can ride up Lytle Creek (just drove up there after the recent storm, never realized how far the paved road goes. You can also ride over toward devore up to kenwood and then hit old 66 or go West on Banyon across the foothills towards Euclid. There are also some mtn bike roads (fire roads) in the area off of Lytle Creek.

Cool. I'll be sure to hit you up in a few weeks once I've settled in and have gotten on the road a couple of times since the move. Haven't ridden in over a week now.

I drove up lytle creek on saturday and found it quite plesent all be it there isnt much shoulder but when you go up old 66 and down it it is bumpy and windy so the down hill is not that plesant. only down it twice and hate it every time. it is a good work out though. Especially that climb going back under the freeway! Have only ridden on lytle to the ranger station but will probably go farther in the summer.

I haven't been up to Cleghorn revently but the road used to be nice an flat.:D I have recently gone towards Cal state Berdo. Ez going out but windy on the return.

Riding from Hunter's towards Euclid is a good short midweek ride. With shorter hills going up DayCreek and by Osos HS.

I live near Foothil and Euclid. So when I ride from home, I go up Wardman Bullock. past Wilson staright up an to the left above the new homes, dead ends by some ranch on the base of the mtns. That will give me 30 roundtrip. If I want 40, the it's to Glen Helen.

I love the fact that on Cajon there are so few cars. There is a fork on Cajon as you head east. If you go left at that fork, it takes you to the palm and Kendall offramp of the fwy. There is a 7/11 and other facilities. The overpass before that area, you will find a prety nice park if you ever need water.

To get to Cleghorn, you'd have to procedd straight after passing Glen Helen. That hill would have got you that day,it can be a lung buster.:D

I used to ride there all the time but now I usually ride the SART or do hill repeats near my house.

The old 66 is fun up to Cleghorn, also, Lytle Creek is okay but last time I went I got buzzed alot. The rides aren't bad its just the wind out there can be crazy.

Gina works about another 5 miles east of the junkyard. I've ridden down there in the summer (from Euclid and Foothill) It gets HOT and on the return (heading west on CajonBlvd), Headwind City!:D

I live in Hunters Ridge as well. I too used to ride out to Lytle Creek. I would venture out on the fire roads. On the road, I had made it to Lytle Creek once. Though, I didn't really like the ride all that much. There is not much of a shoulder. In general, I'm not all that comfortable riding on roads. Lately, I've converted my mountain bike into a commuter by fitting it with road slicks. I've been riding out of Hunters Ridge, taking Summit east to Wilson, then down to Banyon, Banyon to East st, Then drop down East st to the paved bike trail that goes from Rialto To Clarmemont. The trail is not completed in all areas. The ride from Hunters Ridge is about two miles and I truly dread it. Once on the trail, I feel like a late night trucker on a highway all to myself. The miles just blurr by. I'll take it all the way to Indian Hill in Claremont (20 miles). I would like to push myself and do longer rides, but on a trail.

So I learned today that Baseline East = bad Baseline West = Awsome!!!

I damn near killed myself coming down Baseline (@ Church St.) in Highland yesterday. 40 MPH plus a crosswind is scary, and when you look down and see a soft front tire, you start thinking about death.

I managed to stop, but when I went to inflate my tire, I noticed I left my pump on another bike!~ DOH!



So I learned today that Baseline East = bad Baseline West = Awsome!!!

Ouch!!! How'd you get out of that one. I hate that bridge with all the construction -

I walked to the gas station a mile down the road. Fortunately, I had a presta adapter in my bag.

I refuse to ride that bridge over the 215 while it's under construction. It's too dangerous. I either go down to 9th or up to Highland Ave.

It is weird how different the eastbound vs westbound road conditions on Baseline are, esp in Fontana. Going west, it's gravel and potholes with no shoulder; east, it's a well marked path on smooth pavement.

I grew up in Fontana. I went to Fontana High School, and left after I graduated. My folks still live there (near Foothill and Citrus). Its funny because I never saw this region of Socal as very suitable for cycling. Of course the only roads I travel in the area are the arteries from the freeway to my parent's house, which are Foothill and Citrus. Its fun to read through this thread and know that there's great riding to be done there.
