Lessons from Club Tombay on the singletrack yesterday:

When decreasing the release tension on double-sided SPD pedals, do it to both sides of the pedal!

It should have been obvious, and I'm such a slow learner, I took three spills (and one chain derailment) before I figured it out. Thank God I was wearing gloves, or my hands would have gotten the worst of it.

Drew a little blood on the left knee, I came home in a good mood. My wife was puzzled. I told her that instead of putting the weak in Weekend Warrior, I put the warrior in. I haven't skinned a knee doing something fun in a long time.

A little blood is okay, but do try to keep all the blood inside your body! I crashed eight times on single track a few weeks ago, but can't blame any of them on Tombay, my pedals release just fine. The following weekend I only crashed three times, so I may be improving . . . or just going slower.

Have to keep trying though. Tough to turn a roadie like me into a mountain biker!

The best way to skin a knee is doing something fun. Glad you figured it out.
