Bike inspection stations, parking meters for bikes and of course a seat belt law. :lol:

They tried the same thing in jersey. It's not going to fly. I'd like to see them try and enforce this anywhere outside of NYC.

I'd like to see them try to enforce this anywhere! Actually, I'm serious, anything that gets bikes taken seriously as a mode of transportation would be fine with me. Not that I ever expect it to happen, though.

If the revenues from this went to rails-to-trails, adding bike lanes or even shoulders where there aren't any (no bike lanes and few shoulders where I live), safety education for kids and helmets for underprivileged kids, I wouldn't mind it. I might even support it.

If this is just another way to apply a tax for no services, I'm really unhappy with it and I'm going into letter writing mode.

I don't think that there's any way possible that the revenue generated would even come close to covering the costs of administration and the proposed enforcement cameras, let alone additional services for the benefit of cyclists.

I think it's a good idea.
It would curb those nuts that fly through lights and almost hit pedestrians.
Insurance is a great idea for the commercial bikes to protect employees.
They gave us bike lanes. I don't mind paying towards them with a $5. fee.

And it doesn't bother me because I obey the law when I ride in the city.

The NYPD already has a free bike registration program in place. Contact your precinct for information - they'll let you know where and when to bring your bike and they'll install a number on it.

As we all know commercial cyclists, those guys on electric mopeds disguised as bikes, tend to be the worst offenders. And we already have a law in place that requires commercial cyclists to wear reflective vests and helmets, and some sort of card that identifies who they work for. If someone was seriously injured by a delivery guy they'd be perfectly free to sue him, or his employer, whether he carries bike insurance or not.

Of course NYPD doesn't bother to enforce the current laws regarding commercial cyclists. Why does DanDekker or anyone think they'll enforce any new laws?

Yeah and that will work only if there is probable cause to pull the thief over so the cops can run the plates. What happens if the thief uses his own plate that is legit?

Lets face it, the Politician is an idiot. Trying to screw the rest of NYS for because less than 1% of the bikers break the law in NYC. I hope his career is shot, I would hate to see someone with stupid ideas like this reach a higher office.

I was going to ask for the number for his office so I could call and complain about this crazy bill.
