I'm in the process of moving (ok well preparing for the one day move) to a much higher crime rate area than where I currently live. I've been following the Bic Pen holder lock threads with great interest. I think I've settled on getting the Kryptonite Chain or an Abu$ chain and lock. Does anyone have any comments on the Moly lock currently on the new York chain?
Thanks
Chris
I'd prefer the new version of the EV Disc lock personally.
get an abloy pl362 (you'll have toe e-mail abloy for retailers in your ares) and abus's stongest chain (i forget what it's called. e-mail them).
this combo should set you back about $300 but not even hydraulic bolt cutters will get though them.
people may still vandalize your bike. keep it inside.
The molly lock has a long shackle that may be susceptible to bolt cutters. I would look for a padlock with a shrouded shackle that has as little exposed as possible and still work with a chain. I would worry less about pick resistance (but no tubular keys!) since few thieves are going to bother picking a lock. You want brute force protection.
Consider using two locks. One being a chain and padlock. The other a good U-lock like the NY3000. If you use both locks, a thief has to defeat them both which generally requires different tools or extreme measures like an angle grinder.
