Thanks for the link tugurl. I am thinking about buying those from the link then also a broken one which is for parts only and trying to repair the area which the guy has taped together... They are already at $61 and one of the shifters is literally taped together.

Strange to see this thread. I picked up a bike on Craigs today with these exact shifters. The right one is non functional so it will be shipped off for repair, to the guy that has the ones for sale on ebay. It must be the same guy. How many people in South Carolina can be experts at STI repair? I am guessing 1.
He repaired some dead 8 speed 600 levers for me a month ago.

Yep, the left one was barely working. Flushed it out w/WD-40 and it works now. I will check the right one in the am to see if it came back to life but it's doubtful. Thanks anyway in case others didn't know.

Shimano STI Shifters RSX Triple 3x7 can these be set to work with a double chainring?

I have a older Cannondale R600 & Black Lightening with downtube shifters 2x7, and would like to change to Brifters... I do have a triple Sugino square taper crankset that needs to be polished, I might be able to use. yet I am not certain if the chain line will be OK?

Shimano STI Shifters RSX Triple 3x7 can these be set to work with a double chainring?

I've read that the extra click supposed to act as trim on a double, but I couldn't quickly figure it out last night when I installed my ST-A410s on a 1050 series double drive train.

Instead the first click works for the small ring, the third click is perfect on the big ring (no rub across all 7 speeds), and the middle click just rubs the chain against the big ring, not enough to shift.

It works on your double? Is your double chain ring, & chain new? Or it has a bit of wear?

My Cannondale R600 Cad3 is a 3x7 and I had never used a granny gear until a recent trail, and I was glad I had a triple that day and the following Sunday when I road the same section from the Equestrian Park & River loop Trail in Henderson, NV.

This is a well used bicycle, that I am using to learn how to use brifters & cleats. The bicycle has been crashed hard in the past and will require a replacement frame to ride quickly.

The left shifter is odd shifting up. The left will shift from the granny, to the mid chain ring on a single click, but moving to the large ring it takes two shifts more than a trim movement, (first shift will not move the chain, but certainly makes a lot of noise, and the second click is good to finish the shift from mid ring to large ring)

I have only had the R600 Cad3 for almost three weeks, ridden about 250 miles and already I find if very difficult to go back to using the down tube shifter on the Black Lightening when riding a rolling & twisting trail that require constant fiddling with the gears. Stop sign to stop sign is not much of a problem, but add some elevation change and there is no comparison to hands on bar shifting...

Riding the 800 Alpine I expect the shifters to be different, but I have the thumb movements making it easy to shift up & down without removing my hands from the bars.

In my mind we all need an electronic shifter options, so we can change shifting patterns by programing a replaceable rom chip. With the cost of good shifters we should all have an inexpensive option of getting electronic ones, that are programmable for any shift pattern and gear numbers with an ordinary PC. Yes I know electronic shifters are currently very expensive & seldom is there a local shop that can work on them.

Maybe in 8 years or less with the current state of advances in electronics, I think all wal-mart $200 bicycles will come with electronic shifters, then all the manual gearing will rapidly become frightfully expensive destined to become collector items.

With electronic shifter's Rom Chips programmable with an ordinary PC, there will be some that require the LBS to set them, and there will be a entirely new crop of bicycle shop employees that become good with computers, as there was in the advanced auto engine tuning specialists ranks.

Just an FYI, don't flush out the right shifter with WD40 too much. Doing so will completely flush out the grease from within the shifting mechanism, leading to more difficult shifts and eventual wear. I had to have a set refurbished because of this.
I have yet to try this myself, but try flushing/lubricating the shifter with White Lightning wax -- the one that comes in the blue bottle. Comes in a liquid form, and then solidifies into a wax. Also advertised as "self cleaning", so that should be interesting.

I recently had this guy rebuild four sets of STI for me (I had accumulated a lot of dead shifters over the years).

I had flushed mine out quite a bit... where is the best place to get lubrication into it?
