hi everyone. i'm throwing this one out for the approval of the midnight society: what do you think about wooden rims on the street? they are so motherf-ing cool to me...the grain, the old-schooliness, the possibility of total catastrophic failure, the smooth (i've heard) ride...i was wondering a couple things... #1-does anyone still make them (as in mass-produce...)? i've read a couple web pages about a guy who hand laminates them. and i've searched the forums and not come up with much. #2-how much would you trust some old used ones from ebay? #3-does anyone on the forum ride them? #4- how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood rims? #5-i guess that's it. p.s. the real reason i want them is to pull flaming skids. haha "flaming skids" ok thanks in advance

Deadly. They are slick as all get out, I can't deny, but I would never ride them with the chance that they might shatter at any moment. Take those out of the smooth velodrome and you're just asking to bite it hard.

If you do it go with spruce laminate and they would be very strong.

If you found any mint, they'd cost ya. They're rare and would look good on a showpiece or your wall.

I talked to a guy that builds steel bikes with wooden rims. He said they were extremely strong- did not compromise the ride at all. The bike was schweet!
