hey everyone,
i just bought a new used bike, and theres a cleat stuck in one of the pedals! ive tried pushing it and twisting it, like i would twist it if it were on my shoe, but it wont come out... can anyone tell me how i can get it out? also, i dont really have any tools, which could be a problem.
thanks!

Buy a pedal wrench (or if the pedal has the hex socket, a hex key). Remove the pedal and take it to LBS. You will need these tools eventually, so build up your tool kit as you need them.

what kind of pedal is it? if its an spd, you just need a screwdriver. wedge it between the back of the cleat and the metal clamp-like thing, and pry. the back of the pedal will move, dont worry, its spring loaded, its supposed to do that. how do I know this...lets just say...a friend of mine...was screwing around with new SPDs and managed to get a cleat stuck in the pedal...

Time to invest in the three basic tools:
1. Hammer (or a dead blow mallet, or a rubber mallet)
2. A large vise grip
3. A B.F.S. (a big screwdriver)
I'd grab the cleat with a vise grip and give it a good twist. Or, for extra persuasion,
hit the vise grip with a mallet. The B.F.S. will come in handy for something else - trust me.
Or, you can use it as Phatman said ;-)

Reminds me of a slightly funny story...On my touring bike I have SPD pedals..The only time I can remember a problem, I was braking; but the bike was headed for the plate glass widow of a donut shop. ! With a strong side thrust, the right shoe came out fine.
Felt a little panicky. It was weird. Never happened before. Wasn't sure it really happened then..
