Whatever man, Devinci bikes are handmade in Canada.

Um, an X-mart bike? Not even close, sorry.

The frame is handmade in Canada and uses a (Horst-link) 4-bar linkage suspension. That one happens to be one of their cheapest models (hence the so-so component spec).

This is one of their better models:

I like their Freeride bikes better.

We can't all ride Taiwanese bikes.

you broke that frame in two places? on the welds! ouch.

bikerider
04-04-02, 09:08 PM
LOL! Can anyone name a mtb frame that has never broken?

Okay, maybe the Brooklyn Machine Works TMX. There aren't a lot of those around, though. Of course, someone has broken a BMW Park Bike.

So what was your point again?

KleinMp99

My point is that...........there is no point.

VegasCyclist
04-04-02, 09:53 PM
well correct me if I'm wrong, but when I took a welding class, if the weld is done properly it can take a certain amount of stress, I can't recall the specifics but seem to remember something in the ballpark of 10,000 psi for a wirefeed weld. so breaking welds usually means the weld is weak, maybe it was a freak case but both welds broke... go figure

(p.s. my welding class was several years ago, so my numbers are probably way off.... but you get the idea :D)

Actually, common MIG welding wire is rated at 70,000 psi. tensile strength. Some even higher. But that's steel. Aluminum is rated at 46,000 psi. Pretty strong stuff!:)

thanks DG those are the numbers I was looking for :) I knew someone in here had welding experience :D

I knew the steel numbers but had to look up the aluminum.:) Always wanted to try welding aluminum but haven't yet. Heard it was rather difficult. But one of these days...

Looking at the components of the bikes Bikerider posted....

I dunno about it...the quality of components for an upper end full suspension seems a little weak...

that kind of breakage usully happends when someone bails really hard. the front wheel get jammed one way or the other and the fork legs shear the head tube right off the bike. iv'e seen it happned to many a beefy bike. those Devinchis are tough as nails...theres no doubt about that.

For what it's worth, Devinci has a pretty good reputation in Canada. They actually build the aluminum frames for a number of North American companies including Argon 18. Because they're made in Canada, rather than offshore, there are no import duties factored into the prices, so they tend to be a little more affordable than some other brands. AND they're made in North America, if that means anything to you.

Butt-ugly paint jobs, though.

true...the paint jobs are terrible, but the bikes are solid

hey i'm canadaian and the bikes do have a great reputation... and i got one (saguaro '04) well the guy that broke his bike must be josh bender or sumthin to be able to break it because the frames are as tough as diamonds. ya it could have been a problem with the welding but i duno anything about welding, except when i watch monster garage. wel i highly recommend the devinci's for the great bang for buck cuz ur getting a great frame and pretty good components too

Anybody see the new Devinci's? They are pretty sweet looking this year. Sat on a Wilson. All I have to say is PPPPPLLLLLUUUSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH! And pretty burly. But $5500. Ouch.

The thing that scares me with Devinci is that they have embraced the Intergrated headset, for those of us with, um, a lack of finnesse...?
I actually dont mind the paint, reminds me of my old GT.. And going back to Velocipido's comment about affordability... yikes!! A Chicaine is more than a Spec. Alez...
