Hi everyone, I've lurked SSFG for about a year but never posted.
I've been abroad for the past 2 months and am unable to ride anything but this:http://cs-tsuno.ftw.jp/picm/000000028.jpg
highly functional, but not much for speed :roflmao:

Anyways I really miss my fixed gear so I'll post it for you guys to see. Many bad and a few good ideas went into making it

This was right after I finished painting (bad idea #1)

This part I am proud of: handmade wood bar ends
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/steakshack/100_1315.jpg
Bar tape is messed up in this one

Poorly made tube pad, one of the first things to fix when I get back (Pipe insulation + $3 hawaiian pawn shop shirt)

This bike was already converted when I bought it. The frame is an '84 (I think) Schwinn Super Series. About 7 weeks until I'm riding it again!

I feel your pain!

I am currently on a service trip (not involving Jesus) to D.C. The weather is 15 degrees warmer than it is at my uni, and this is such an amazing place to ride. I'm displeased!

I was in DC for a convention in October and had the same feeling... If you ever have a chance to go to National Harbor it is really great ( and would be perfect for biking around too!)

More for everyone who liked the squirrel. They bulk up a lot in Michigan to prepare for winter

The bar end plugs are nice too. It would be cool to carve a design or initials in them.

+1 on the fat squirrel :D. i'm digging your wooden bars...but aren't you scared that if you're riding up an excessively steep hill you might break your bars O_o and eat pavement? i tend to put a lot of pressure on my bars when riding up hills xD. hope you having a good time in japan!

Can we get a picture of the bar unwrapped? I want to know if these are made out of stock lumber or are laminated.

aren't you scared that if you're riding up an excessively steep hill you might break your bars
wood is tough and flexible, I wouldn't dump on it right away.

Thanks! I am having a great time here!

Granted, it would be awesome to have some sturdy wooden bars, you guys have the wrong idea :p Only the plugs are wood

Here's a pic so you can see more clearly. They are from an old broom handle that I found in my basement

+1, shouldn't be too hard to snap one when it gets slightly warmer, the squirrels on my campus aren't scared of people in the least.

I'm almost positive that the National Geographic pic is Swiftcurrent Lake in Glacier National Park, right by where I worked. The whistlepigs (ground squirrels) up there don't play. No fear when it comes to food theft.

Same here, they will come up to you on the sidewalk even if you don't have food. Occasionally ducks from the river will be on the sidewalk too :p
