Hi,
I just need some opinions on how much this is worth, I don't know much about bikes. Someone gave it to me and now I'm trying to sell it for whatever I can get. I think its a 70s Schwinn Collegiate, yellow... The brakes don't work at all, the chain's rusty, but it seems to have all original parts and someone could at least use the frame? Any advice would be appreciated.

Ok turns out I can't upload the picture, but this might be enough info.

CraigsList is full of old Schwinns.
I would donate the bike to your local Bike CoOp or GoodWill and take a tax credit next year.

Without seeing the bike, I would say it is not worth much (or anything). Women's Collegiates are neither rare or distinctive. In the Detroit area, a restored women's collegiate might might go for $60-$100 on a good day. Women's bikes are less desirable than men's bikes. The cost to restore your bike would likely far exceed the value of the bike in a restored condition. If the bike is in the condition you describe, you would be fortunate to get $10. If the bike was given to me, I might take it for parts, but I wouldn't pay money for it. As Frogbutter recommended, you would be well advised to donate the bike.

Why sell a bike for $20 that you can write off for $150?

Or sell it for scrap metal, since it's by the pound it starts to add up quickly with an old Schwinn. :innocent:

$20 was pretty good for what it was.

Tax writeoff is a joke... You could sell the headbadge from that schwinn for $20 on ebay... I've parted a few out and made a few bucks here and there... Trash or scrap the rest with scrap metal...
