Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Any body No what year my bike may be!

I have a Firestone 500< I found it in our shop while we were cleaning it out.
it was covered with dirt and i could hardly see the color..It looks like my first
new bike when i was 12 years old.(except mine was a huffy) It is wonderful, I am planning on painting it but my husband says no you will ruin it. I want to restore it and i am so tempted to have it painted but my husband said I wouldn't be able to find the decals and right now you can see the Firstone decals on it..any sugestions out ther

I had a hard time seeing the bike because the image was so small and I am not familiar with Firestone bikes. But, one popular way to get a good idea of the year of a bike is to date the components. Stamped on the back of most bike components is some sort of date code that, when decoded, will give you the date of manufacture of that component. Of course, components can be replaced over time, so it is not a foolproof method. However; typically, if several of the components date to about the same year, it’s a good clue as to the bike’s age. It's pretty easy to post pics once you have a photo management service such as 'photobucket' which I use. I've read that 'picasa' is good as well, but there many others. Once you have uploaded an image to one of these site, you can copy & paste the image to your post. BF has their own photo tool, but it will only handle lo-res pics.
