Cyclocross - 2010 Scattante X-330 vs. 2010 GT GTR Type CX

First time poster to this forum. I just sold my 2010 7.2 fx because is was too small. Having just started cycling last July, I didn't realize it was too small until starting to ride an 88 Fuji Sagres SP road bike (sport touring type) and being very comfortable.

So now I'm in the market for another bike that I want to be versatile and I'm strongly considering a cross bike from Performance since they have them on sale right now. I'm not sure how many of the GT's are left. I did a brief test ride on both of them and the GT they had in the store was too large. The Scattante fit me better. It appears that the component edge goes slightly to the GT but I like the cross levers and carbon fork on the Scattante. I'm looking a little bit more on the comfort side but still want a bike with some toughness. Thanks in advance.

I'm kind of surprised you didn't get a single response to this.

I just today was looking at the Scattante on the Performance Bike site, and I think it looks good. Right now it's $599. The link to the other bike no longer works.

I was the guy in the commuting forum suggesting the X-330 to the OP that you recently responded too. They may only have the GT's in store right now and not online as I saw 2 of them last week in the store. I thought that the GT was slightly better over all with it's Tiagra drivetrain (no CF) but they did not have my size. I have no complaints with my X-330, however. So far it seems pretty bomb proof and rides real nice; much more comfortable than my now departed 2010 Trek 7.2 FX hybrid. The X-330 is not a top of the line bike but I really don't think too many bikes can compete with it when it comes to value; especially if you can buy one at a retail location like I did. We are talking $599 here for a Sora equipped bike with a Tiagra cassette and a carbon fork; not too bad. It is also designed to be commuter friendly with the rack mounts.

I get lifetime adjustments with it along with putting the purchases towards Performance's reward program which I joined prior when paying them for the drivetrain service to get my recently acquired for free 88 Fuji road bike back on the road for me. I just picked up a pair of Panaracer Urban Max's (a $50 value) for free with those points so I basically got the bike and a new set of good tires for $599. I'm itching to get these on because the stock tires, while fun in the mud, are pretty slow on pavement.

Your other post got me thinking about that Scattante. I really can't justify it though, unless I sell my 7.3 FX.

I am a newbie to the forum. I just purchased the GT GTR CX two days ago. Since then, I have been back to the shop twice to have problems with the shifter fixed. I admit I am new to the cyclocross type bikes, but the shifting of gears is very slow on the CX and unstable compared to my previous hybrid. I'm not sure I will keep it; its in the shop now until tomorrow. I bought it from Performance. I will consider the X-330, if things don't work out with this one. Overall, it has a great feel and I even had the chance to take in on a trail.

I was in the market for a cyclocross and figure it's the type of bike that would suit my needs. The choice was between the Scattante X-330 and GT type CX. I road both and both road nicely. Ultimately the chose the GT because it fit me better and I was told it had better components (Tiagra vs Sora). I road the bike home the first day. However, half way home, the left shifter for the front gear did not shift and I had to bring it back for an adjustment. My second ride was yesterday, the same thing happened around the first mile of my ride ; I was stuck in the lower gear since the front derailleur refused to shift. I called Performance bike today and will be bringing the bike in. I'll either decide to return the GT and get the Scattante or keep the GT pending to outcome of Performance Bike's assessment.

BTW, you didn't by and return YOUR bike in Colorado did you?
I got mine in Greenwood Village, CO (Arapahoe and Yosemite).
