Simply, the chain ring bolts on my fixed gear loosen up often enough. I have a chainring bolt tool and I try to torque them down but sometimes weeks, sometimes months, later I find them loose. I'm lucky I havent lost any in the middle of a ride. This has never happened on my road bike, I torqued them once and that was it. What is going on here? This is happening on two different crank sets by the way.

I am guessing it has to do with the push and pull of the chain. I always trackstand but I hardly use my legs to slow down. time for some loctite

While on the topic; Origin 8 chain ring bolts suck. They break so freaking easily

Use Loctite and stainless steel sugino bolts. Install in star pattern.

i think its just what happens to us big mashers on fixed gear drive trains

Happens to me too. I only weigh 165 but I'm running 82 gear inches so my pedals get mashed pretty hard. I also track stand and slow down with the pedals most of the time.

Did you lube the threads before installing them? If not, that's the problem.

Blue Loctite FTW. I put a drop on each of my bolts, snugged them down and they haven't been messed with since.

i will locktite all my chainring bolts first thing. cuz im sick of it

Red Loctite and 3/8" star washers on the back side. Got some BMX chainring bolts from Bikepartsusa and had the same problem. An ace bike mechanic friend of mine made the suggestion and it's been almost 3 years now. I changed the front from a 46t to a 48t and added a couple of links. That's the only time they've been loosened and retightened. They're still goin' strong.

I use nail polish instead of loctite because im cheap. Seems to work alright.
