only...in front of hipster girls.

I have to settle for sorority girls.

I do when it rains just to see how far I can go, other than that not intentionally. It happens occasionally in a quick stop as I grab the front brake and my legs lock up.

I skid when I feel like it. It's fun, but it takes a lot more effort than squeezing my hand on the brake lever. I'm currently running a ratio that I don't feel comfortable skidding at unless I get substantially out of my saddle, so I usually just back pedal or use my front brake.

It's also super duper fun to find a snowy parking or parking garage roof and slide around.

i do all the time but it's only a problem when i'm using my track bike as my primary errand/transport/commute bike, like this past week.

Mostly unintentionally. Mashing at lights on sketchy pavement, emergency car-interaction situations and the like.

Rarely, intentionally. And only for sup girls.

only in an emergency when i use both the front brake and lock the rear accidentally by back-pedalling a bit too eagerly

whip skids if i need to kill a lot of speed quickly, otherwise hop skip.

i skid as my main form of stopping and I run a suicide brake for emergencies. put 500+ miles on the fixie daily commuting this way.

I do sometimes for giggles. depends on what part of town I am in.

but i had a cop follow me a block home just to tell me my bike didnt have reflectors,
so I tend to keep my silliness to a minimum when I am in the north side of town where I live.

i skid all the time because why not. used tires are still cheaper than gas, and i'm not going through them that quickly

I still skid, though not that often... I do it for fun once in a while...

i still skid quite often to kill speed. i figure even if i bought whole new tire set every month it'd still be cheaper than car insurance. i figure eventually i'll buy/install a front brake. until then, skidz it iz.

I dont normally skid, I'll skip to a stop or resist, I like to skid only when I'm trying to entertain myself lol.

Skidding is too mainstream.
So I don't skid except when doing it ironically.

I skid a lot when it was more icy out but not so much anymore. I still skip sometimes, but mostly brake and back pedalling.

HandsomeRyan

I skidded a bit when I first started riding fixed not because "I didn't know better" as the middle option indicates but simply because I could. Now that I've mastered it, I don't really do it anymore because tires are expensive and anyone who'll be impressed by a fixed gear skid is probably not worth impressing.

...every once in a while if I see a nice long patch of grass still slick with morning dew, I can't resist though.

I skid occasionally for fun or at a skid competition other than that its all leg or hand brake

I rarely skid, even on my brakeless rig.

cg1985

I split time between braking and skidding, braking is more efficient, better for the tires, and easier. Also, skidding is sometimes not something one can do instantaneously, at least not me, so it's not really practical for a lot of the ride.

I usually skid when I am coming to a stop to lock up my bike, just to feel hip.

I whip skid when needing to slow down quickly, other than that I just back peddle. I must admit, I miss the days when I first learned to skid and would skid at every opportunity..

Yes, skidding (new tires every month) costs less than car insurance, gas and oil; but backpedaling costs even less.

I rode behind a fellow the other day who made skidding look natural and easy.

I liked his style.

However, he didn't need to skid and, every time he slowed down or stopped, I saw it as money scraped off his tires.

His tires and his money.

I have to admit he made it look cool.

Skip occasionally. In the winter I can't justify skidding with studded tires at 50-70 bucks a pop. Normally, I backpedal a bit (try to take it easy on the knees) but rely on front brake. Maybe two or three times a summer I will bust out a half block skid for ***ts and giggles, usually right before I replace my tires.

I rarely skid any more because of similar reasons. However when mashing downhills, I can't help but to carve it all the way down. Makes me feel like I'm snowboarding. =)

I dont skid ever. No money to buy new tires, constantly rolling on dumpster'd tires from the bourgeois roadies.

nope. 9 months of commuting(school, work, shopping, visiting friends) and logging via my Garmin forerunner 305.... 512.3 miles at this moment are logged.

Just for occasional fun or emergencies when I totally forget I actually do have a brake because I usually apply back pressure to stop/ regulate speed.

Since I am sort of one of those roadies I just ride my retired road tires on my fixies. I don't feel bad about beating the piss out of tires I have basically dumpstered from myself, and therefore skid them to the threads.

In the winter, when theres leaves everywhere and it's raining, I'm a skid master. However, my gear ratio's pretty high. I find it hard to skid on dry material, as I don't like pushing my crotch up against my stem.

Not trying to be an ass, but 500mls in 9 months is a 2.7 ish roundtrip based on a 5 day workweek. How often do you have to stop on a 1.35 mile run( refering to the skid thing)?
