Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I need some rims that won't bend at all, I need better rims for a diamonback coil I hate the rims I have now and I need Better ones Please help. I need suggestions on what to get because I am not the best at choosing And I want to know past experiences, I ride at a intermediate and hard core too, (like 4 foot drops) so I obviously need better than cheap stock rims, and I have 11 dollars an I am 13 and have no job. So, I need a bang for a buck.

$11.00?? You might be able to buy a poster of a wheelset you would like but dont count on it.

I don't think he could even get a wheelset for 110, assuming he accidentally left off a zero. $11? That might get you some new spokes...

You might be able to get 2 spokes and a couple of nipples for $11.00. My suggestion is use the wheels that are on them and use them until they explode. $11.00 won't even get you a rim off of a depot store bike.

hmmm...I could say you 4 spokes and a nipple :)

Umm...
Wow, i wont go on again about the $11 budget but... Wow...
I really hope you are joking about this, but if you are interested in getting a decent set of rims you will be looking at ALOT more than that.
Btw 4 foot isnt small but it isnt "hardcore" either...
Edit: Is there anything actually wrong with your current rims? If they dont feel right they must just need to be trued.

What kind of "bang" do you expect for your buck? :)

lmao...this guy is starting all sorts of ridiculous threads...I think he's just toying with us.
But for $11 dollars, why dont you go out to the forest, find some dead sticks, use them as your spokes, and bend some strips of plywood as your wheel?? You still may go over the $11 budget though :(

11 bucks. SERIOUSLY, you can't even get a stem for that. 11 bucks ain't gonna get you crap. Times have changed, 11 bucks is really a small amount. Do you expect to get something for that much? We didn't flip out. We just thought you were crazy.

I think its good that your saving up. You wont need $500 but youll need a fair amount of money. Mybee some people could give him some suggestions for when he does have the money?
Rhyno Lites on XT hubs...strong and a good value. They're still several hundred dollars though.

on a side note, what are those yellow wheels? Are they Mavics?

Wrong. He only needs $104 + S&H more to get Rhyno lites on XT http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/12013-365_SHIXT1-3-Parts-75-Wheelsets/Shimano-XT-Wheelset-w_-Sun-Rhyno-Lite-Rims.htm
If he can wait that long they have Rhyno Lites on LX for $100.

Looks like Mavic DeeMax

That's what I was thinking... as their other high-end wheelset is the CrossMax. I'm assuming DeeMax = downhill rim. CrossMax = XC rim. :)
everyone also seems to be recommending the RhynoLites on XT hubs... RhynoLite > DitchWitch, I'm guessing. My bike came spec'd with Sun DitchWitches and I figured I'd ride them til they look like eggs then upgrade. Hopefully that's later rather than sooner.

Thanks for the info on Rhyno Lites on XT hubs are rhyno lites tires? Or are they part of the rim? Can Someone give me an explanation on rims?

Ryno lite is a rim
xc hub
rasheed
10-28-04, 11:48 AM
rhyno lites are rims made by sun ringle. the hub is the part in the middle of the wheel that is connected to the rim by the spokes.

i think the kid needs "wheels" not a rim. a "rim" is just the outside of the wheel that the spokes attach to- hence where u put ur tire. i just built a nice set of wheels for about 280 bucks. i know u only have 16 dollars but bugg ur parents. they were mavic d521 rims ( last years model will save u a few bucks) shimano xt hubs( a bit pricey but will last 4-5 years) and swiss dt spokes. its up to u kid go to ur local bike shop and see if he has ne cheap used wheels or something... thats wut id do.
You, your, what not "u" "ur" "wut"
AOL'ese is against the rules here. I've asked you nicely before now I'm telling you - knock it off.

I did (sort of, it was a little more tech than just shortening words)...but that was when it was a bbs of 700 users with 40 or so active users and it was new.
And it is hard to read when used in excess...

Ouch... I can say I've been faceplant free so far. As far as getting a new wheelset, you can either mix 'n' match your parts (XT hubs, 521 rims, DT spokes) or you could just buy a pre-built wheelset like the Mavic Crossland or Crossmax. The Crosslands are only $230 a set on beyondbikes.com. The Crossmax XL Disc runs $650 on the same site. There are tons of options out there obviously and I'm sure the guys here can give plenty of ideas based on their experiences. A few years ago I had an XTR wheelset with Mavic rims (521's maybe? 517? can't remember the exact 500-series) and DT double-butted spokes. I bashed the crap out of them and never had any issues. Just remember to keep the spokes tensioned properly :)

cool...hopefully i can get some kind of deal on them when the time comes, for now im gonna stick to my stock hard rock with crankbros pedals...those ryno lite wheels look pretty nice, the ones with the xc hubs, probably gonna spend about 150-200 canadian for them..
and when i hit that grass...man it woke me up ill say that much, think im gonna spend a little more time on my pedal clipping in and out...

The lack of AOL-ese is actually rather refreshing. Obviously a few people here still use it, but I guess that's just one of those things that is going to be a part of our culture no matter how much we hate it.. kinda like traffic jams. :p

It actually is against our Forum Guidelines. It does, sadly, have a stronghold in the BMX section We do, however, try to keep the bulk of the Forums AOL'ese free.

Why, my friend had some walmart rims on his 24" BMX and we "dropped" it down a hill by my house. (Maybe 10ft.) It hit a rock and the wheel tacoed like crazy. Didn't even hit hard.

But seriously, they're probably teenagers (like me) that have 90% of their online interaction through MSN messenger and such. You can't tell me that if you spoke a certain way 90% of the time, you would be able to refine your language skills enough to speak properly the other 10% of the time. I can do it, but only because I'm M4x L33t!
:( (Please don't hurt me)
