You're close to the venice chill ride and taco Tuesday. Check www.midnightridazz.com forums
I am not near you.
You should look here (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php/236-Southern-California).
Oh, and what's wrong with "riding really far"? Embrace the challenge.

To be fair, Marina del Rey to LA is quite a bit of urban riding just to do some more urban riding.

Come visit BIKEROWAVE!!!!!! rides meet here once in a while and the people there can guide you as well. You can also go to the few bike shops, like Helen's, on Lincoln and see if any weekend rides meet there (mostly roadies though). Yeah, and look at Midnightridazz.com for anything close by

I drive 60miles to LA to ride with others sometime cuz I'm from Riverside.
I know it's not practical but if you really want it, give it a try~~
