I just got my Specialized Hardrock Pro Disc the other day and according to the website, it's supposed to have Avid BB5 mechanical discs... Well, I'm looking at them thinking that they look pretty nice for entry level disc brakes and decide to look @ Avid's site and find that mine look NOTHING like the BB5 and look identical to the BB7's. They say BBDB on the sticker on them, so apparently I somehow managed to get a free upgrade to the BB7's? Or did I get the top of the line 04 model? Basically, is the BB7 the same thing as the BBDB? Also, has anyone else had the same sort of thing happen?

Yes, my Kona Fire Mountain had an Acera Front derailleur instead of the Altus but it was tuned improperly :(

hmm... I guess I should feel lucky that my bike shop gives me a year of free tune-ups. Needless to say, I wonder if I got BB7's or last year's model, which may have been called the BBDB. They don't say BB7 on them but they look identical to the BB7. Also, the BB5 info on avid's site compares them to the "BBDB". Anyone have any ideas?

BBDB stands for Ball Bearing Disc Brake
Before this year, Avid had only one mechanical disk brake model, the BBDB. This year they introduced a second, less expensive model. They called this the BB5, and renamed the old BBDB to BB7.

The BB7 is the same mechanical disk brake that Avid has always had. The BB5 is the new budget model.

That was the idea that I was getting from the info that I'd gathered. Either way, I'm happy about the upgrade. I love having both outboard and inboard pad adjustment knobs.
