Is anyone considering doing either or both of the Brasstown Bald Buster Century and the Assault on Mt. Mitchell this year? I am signed up for both, and if my training goes ok may try both. I am older and slow, but did the Everest Challenge a few years ago. I don't know if having a day off in between the rides is good or bad.
My final decision may be weather based, as I have had enough raining century rides in the mountains in the past, and the joy of them is gone for me.
Loook forward to anyone's experiences on this.
Best,
Mark

I'm riding Brasstown for the first time this year, skipping Mitchell, as I'm riding Mountains of Misery in Blacksburg, VA. the week after Mitchell (5/29), and not sure I'm capable of that particular "Triple Crown". Ridden Mitchell the last 3 years, was ready to try something different.

Mark,

Curious to know if you did both or Brasstown in particular. I have ridden Mitchell 4 times in the past---way past---mid-90's as well as much of the Six Gap terrain and the Brasstown climb itself in last few years. Though I have not done it, it seems like B-town century would be tougher given the gradient of Brasstown, especially at the end of such a ride. (I have heard tat B-town only has about 100 participants so no large groups to draft in for some respite either like Mitchell) I cannot imagine trying both back to back----yee of much better fitness than most to consider.
