Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Weinmann DP18 black rims

anyone know if these are stickers on the rims? they must be, but would want to remove them if i purchase.

also, anyone have any comments on this set up?

Yea those are stickers that you can remove, and that wheelset will be just fine for your needs.

You mentioned singlespeed in the other thread.It's a good idea to use front&rear brakes on SS, so you might wanna get both rims with MSW.

I have this exact wheelset. They are a little bit heavy, but for $130 they are a very solid choice.

The stickers are very easily removed. I used a blow dryer on low to heat up the stickers a bit, but you can really just pull them off without leaving any residue if you go slowly.

I have them on my Shimano S2C kickback hub equipped bike - a little heavy but its a rugged wheelset. Looks cool with Specialized white tires!

Running just a front brake on a SS is a option, but not a very safe one.If the cable should snap you'll be SOL.Having said this,I've run SS with just a front, but i've also run bikes with suicide hubs and at one point had all my fixed gears brakeless.I have also dropped chains on my brakeless bikes while aproaching intersections and been able to flintstone/ted shred/merge into crosstraffic without stressing out.If you think you can handle some unforseen crap, go ahead with the front only.If you're not sure,don't worry about cool and do both brakes.Btw,those DP18s to formulas have served me well,just make sure to have the wheels tensioned and trued before you use them.It'll save you worries down the line.

im sure about the difference, i think the first one, the cheaper one, is a fixe / ss set.

but, free shipping, $100 or so, and with tubes and tires, sounds like a steal, but, are they worth it?

Weinmann makes solid quality wheels. They aren't the fanciest in the world or the lightest but its a well made budget wheelset.

I run fixed. If you are running SS, you should run two brakes, and therefore look for a set with machined sidewalls on both the front and the rear.

As for the two sets you posted from BikeIsland, I can tell you that the second one is a road wheelset. Instead of choosing an unknown wheelset from BI, look at these Amelias. Sometimes they go on sale for $100 shipped.
