Hybrid Bicycles - 2-speed shifter for a hybrid

Hello!

My plan is to shed some weight off my bike, and that includes getting a carbon bar, stem and post, lighter rubbers, etc. What I also wanted to do is take off the smallest cog of the crankset (which I never practically use). Hence the question: would you know if a set of 2 and 8 speed shifters is available? Thank you!

Leave the cog on there. Don't spend so much time and money upgrading your bike. Spend time on your bike.

What's wrong about it?

They could snap when you hit a pothole and leave you in the road unconscious and bleeding from the head.

You could find some old thumb shifters that would do what you're asking. Friction shifter would definitely work of course.

Or you could keep your current shifters, and just adjust the FD stop so it can't shift to the chainring you're "deleting".

Or you could just leave it alone and ride more.

Or you could fiddle, which I also like to do.

You could delete the front wheel and fork and learn to ride it as a unicycle. That would save weight, and it would be an interesting challenge.

I dont know what bike or crankset you have but with my scott P1 sportster I dumped the deore derailier and crank and with no modifications put a twin ring compact road crank and ultegra derailier and outboard bearing bottom bracket.
That took off half a kilogram, the standard shifters worked fine as two speed shifters.
Then I swapped it all over to my mtb frame the road crank doesent technically fit but I made it work.
So depending what frame you have you might be able to fit road gear with standard shifters or with a mtb it can work but that would take a bit of explaining.

As stated before you can simply use your existing 3 clicks shifter on a crank with only two chainwheels.
You only need to adjust the maximum movement of your derailleur.
About that derailleur: it would probably be best to use a double or compact crank specific type if you change crank completely.
