I recently purchased a NOS Brooks B66 Champion and I'm trying to put a date on it. It came in the old black, yellow and red box that says "A Sturmey Archer Product." I've looked on the internet for some info and all I can really discern is that it was made before the 2000 switch and it's a model that is no longer in production. Based on the packaging I wouldn't guess it's more than 15 or so years old, but I would like to know more precisely. Anyone have any info on how to date this thing?

Also, does anyone here use this particular saddle that can comment on it's comfort/durability/etc? It seems really solid. The leather is substantially thicker than that on my newer B17... not sure if that's a good thing or not. Planning on touring with it this summer so I guess time will tell.

Any info much appreciated.

The older Brooks usually had a date code stamped into the rear cantle plate. See if there's a number/letter code in it (rounded rear metal plate that rivets hold the leather to). If no date code, you're just guessing. The code will be a 2 digit number with a letter denoting which batch or part of the year it was produced; something like "A73".
