Cyclocross - Brake chatter on Felt F1X--how to solve?

I have a 2007 F1X cyclocross bike, aluminum frame, carbon fork. Canti brakes. Just had the fork replaced due to the recall; I think the replacement is a Ritchey Carbon Comp, but not sure.

The front brakes have significant chatter when even moderate pressure is applied. It was worse with the recalled fork, but still a problem with the new one. The LBS mechanic says he has done what he could. This model apparently will not work with any other brake type without major changes, so not likely to do that.

Any ideas as to what causes the chatter and how to reduce/eliminate it? Is it common to this model or fork? Appreciate the help!

If your fork has a hole in the crown you can move the cable stop there. It should fix the issue.

Where is the brake hanger located? I have heard that mounting a fork mounted hanger can make quite a difference. I have chatter on my Major Jake so I have ordered one for that bike. I will return and report on the performance effects.

The best fork-crown-mounted cable stop I have seen is the Specialized version.

I currently use a V-brake with travel agent on the front, with canti brake on rear, and I am quite pleased with the performance.

If - but only if - the fork mounted hanger doesn't help then you should fit either mini-v brakes or full size vs with a "Travel Agent".

If your fork is all-carbon and doesn't have a ready drilled hole for the canti hanger to use, then forget trying it and skip to the vees - do NOT drill into an all-carbon fork!

Installed a Tektro mini-V on the front; problem SOLVED. No chatter whatsoever now. Amazing--the $12 solution for a $1,500 bike. This is great, since I was tired of owning a quality bike that did not ride like one. Left the canti on the rear, saw no immediate need to change that out.

It really is amazing that people stay with a canti that chatters like hell for so long trying to fix it when the answer is so bloody simple, huh?
