General Cycling Discussion - Recommended bike shops in Arlington/DC area

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey all,
I am trying to help someone buy a bike from across the country, and I am wondering if anyone can recommend a few good bike shops in the Arlington/DC area that would be competent for commuter or touring cyclists.
Also, does anyone know if any of these shops carry Bianchi bikes?
Any help would be appreciated
Have yo asked the folks who live in the DCarea? You can find them in the Northeast Regional subforum (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php/232-Northeast).
I bought my Bianchi Axis at Big Wheel Bikes in Arlington and they are my go-to LBS.

Bianchi? Yeah, Big Wheel Bikes, and Capitol Hill Bikes has started to carry Bianchi again.
I don't think any of the Georgetown shops carry Bianchi, now that I think about it. The Bike Rack doesn't carry Bianchi, and I don't think Rollin Cycles, the newer shop a couple blocks from them, has Bianchi, either.
For touring/commuting, I'd check Bike Rack, Rollin Cycles, and probably Spokes Etc.
The good thing about DC having so many bike shops is that you can find just about anything. The bad thing is that, because there are so many, each of them can afford to focus on narrower markets; you probably won't find a single mountain bike at CycleLife, and you won't find many tri bikes at Conte's.

I suggest searching yelp.com for customer reviews and ratings of Arlington/DC area bike shops.

They don't carry bianchi but if you want to see a really cool bike shop come to Mt. Airy (north of the city in MD, between Fredrick and B-more) and visit Mt. Airy Bikes. An amazing array of vintage steel, tandems, recumbents, vintage parts, new parts, obscure parts, and everything else you could want regardless of what cycling dicipline you participate in. A cycling enthusiast could literally spend hours looking through all the stuff they have there. Staff seems to be pretty friendly too.
