She did a bad job lip synching with her first song. I didn't see the screw up though. :(

Lip syncing on shows like that is fairly common. It's a lot easier to set up in a hurry than an actual live band. If it's her voice on the tape, what's the biggie?
Milli Vanilli, if memory serves, got into trouble because they were lipsyncing someone else's voices, which is far more dodgy.
Allister,
I would have been slightly amused by the incident if she just apologized and let
it drop. She in her infinite wisdom blamed it on her band. They played the wrong
song!

I did not see it when it happened, however if you watch the news at all it is hard not to have seen it once. LOL She should have just continued on with the song that was play and badly faked that one as well, Instead she just stood there then hopped around a little bit (a jig) blamed her band which in my opinion did a spledid job of recovering and continuing to play on. What a Joke.
Good for a laugh for sure

You can see most of the singers lipsynching on all the daily talk shows and such if you try to match up their mouth with what you hear which really leads me more to believe that current pop music is overproduced crap that can't be done live.
I remember reading something about britney spears getting caught lipsynching in japan or something.
Allister - What are the chances that it is her voice anyways and not something that used to be her voice. They could have layered effects on top of it to make it sound good. In my opinion if you present yourself as a singer then you should not be lipsynching. Why not put a caption below that says -the voice was recorded earlier- like late night talk shows do when they record earlier in the day?
Someone in the big office just thought that they could parlay her sisters success and make some more money of the other sister at the same time is basically why she is even on a record right now.

We have all suspected that pop "music" is lip-synced and processed to within an inch of its life, I'm sure...but now, we have concrete PROOF of it happening!
methink she really is that stupid... i kept wondering if it was an act.

It's been that way for at least twenty years. When you start sounding like your father, it's time to perhaps have another look at things.

I haven't seen the clip (damn firewall), nor am I familiar with Miss Simpson's work, but if I guess the type correctly (going by references to Miss Spears et al), then she's presenting herself as many things, singer being perhaps third or fourth on the list. It's not art, it's product. Getting upset over some screeching tart lipsynching is like complaining that m&m's use artificial colouring.

Suspected?! All you have to do is listen to it to know that. Lipsyncing revelations don't prove anything we've known all along. But, it's not illegal, and some people apparently like over-produced music, so what's the biggie? I still don't listen to it.
If you want to support live music turn off the tv and go to the pub and go see a local band.

**I placed this mistakenly in another Simpson/SNL thread over in Foo so here you go**
I thought this was rather funny... from Broadband Reports-
http://www.broadbandreports.com/r0/...aad92275/gN.gif
While you watch it put on or at least sing some Hillbilly music... maybe the theme from Beverly Hillbillies.
"Now... listen to a story 'bout a man named Jed... "
She sang live at the Radio Music awards. Listen to that and you will know why she lip syncs.. Dogs go running when she sings for real.
It's not art, it's product
Most profound thing I've read in these forums in a long time

Why isn't anyone bashing Lorne Michaels or whatever his name is at Saturday Night Live? Someone from the crew must have known that this was happening. In my opinion, SNL is just as guilty as Ms Simpson for foisting this crap on us under the guise of "live" entertainment.

Forty years ago, the Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday night was capable of making someone a "star" over night. The only catch: it was "live" and no lip synching was allowed. So a lot of "talent" never made it to the Ed Sullivan Show.
In contrast, the Dick Clark Show never let people play "live". They were required to "lip synch". Some of the performers who appeared on Dick Clark seemed to go out of their way to "protest" the lack of live music by doing the worst possible job of lip synching imaginable.
I was at an exhibition on music and technology. Some of the machines allowed you to alter your voice to sound like Darth Vader, or Alvin and the Chipmunks. And, the result of that technology is that Ashlee Simpson is a "star", while gifted singers such as Cleo Laine go years without a TV appearance.

yeah. since SNL (IMO) has turned crappy, i don't even watch it anymore. and as for blaming lorne michaels, i don't think he can be held accountable for what the population (excluding myself and most of the members of this forum, it seems) want to see.
i mean, look at american bandstand. that show was devoted to MUSIC and they lip synched... and i wasn't even alive in that era really....
plus, if she can't sing live, i'd rather hear her voice track....if she can't sing live, she shouldn't sing at all... but whatever.
How can you screw up lip synching? It is bad enough that she can't sing live. Then, she blamed it on her band. She claimed that they began playing the wrong song. I think they played the wrong song on purpose. How can the entire band play the wrong song at the same time? I think the lip synch technician played the wrong lyrics. Either that, or she treats the band like crap and they wanted to exploit her for the phony that she is.
