I thought this would be pretty straight forward, but reviews I've seen talk about difficulty with keys breaking off, easy to smash with cutters,etc.

I don't expect to leave the bikes in a high-crime type area, but I'd like to leave them outside if we stop for a restaurant, etc..

I see some lock manufacturers "guarantee" their locks if you register your bike.

Is it PR or worth the cost?

If that's an important factor in your purchasing decision, be sure to read the small print first.

They are only a few dollars more and if I were in the market for a lock that would work for me. You will need to make a police report out and sent it in with the proof of purchase. Keeping those records may be a hassle but may be worth it.

Especially here in New York State, there are so many hoops to leap, that it's essentially meaningless marketingspeak.

Doesn't change the fact that I swear by Kryptonites. I just ignore the "guarantee".

As I read all them guarantees expire in a year any how.
