General Cycling Discussion - Experiences with Julbo sunglasses?

Tripped across these at the international mtb competition at Ste Anne Quebec last fall and have no experience with them myself.

The technology sounds imprssive - no coatings, the tint goes all the way through the lens and they lighten and darken in response to light levels in seconds- not minutes. That much I confirmed at the booth.

They didn`t have the model I was interested in available in any color except brown at the time but I`m considering ordering a pair this spring. That would be the Speed / Trail 346 in Zebra soft technology.

Have previously used Carerras but they have been discontinued and am currently using Oakley ?pFrames but the company has apparently changed their warranty policy and no longer warrantees their frames for more than a year. Since I`ve personally had two frames replaced under warranty simply because they snapped while changing lenses - that doesn`t make sense to me.

The liturature from Julbo has no references to a warranty but the glasses aren`t cheap - typically over $200 a pair. Any personal experiences or info?

Well I have both the Run and the Contest. I tend only to wear the Run for whatever reason. I am a fella that has firm belief in redundancy so typically I have at least two of whatever.. thus the Deuces.

I cant report on how the contest are performing cos I have not worn them out yet but the runs are spectacular. They look more like regular "plastic" sunglasses rather than some of the over-styled sport specific glasses, I've never liked that style to be honest.

The coverage is full, they are comfortable and shaped so that for me they simply never fog, they totally stay in place on my face and never slide or droop as some can. I cant say that I have taken any special moments during my rides to look at what shade the lenses are to be honest but everything is extremely clear and highly visible even past dusk. I can tell they are doing their job because I'm never blinded by glare and everything has modest vibrancy to it, not over done at all, just clear and visible.

I have no complaints. I would suspect the 'Contest' would perform the same as they have the zebra lenses and supposedly a slightly larger lense. I tend to take care of my stuff as best I can manage so I have not dropped or rested the lenses on anything to put the scratch resistance to the test, if they are not on my face they are in the case and in my backpack. So sorry, no report on how resilient the lenses or glasses in general are.

Thanks for the feedback! I don`t abuse my stuff either so if your sunglasses are standing up well to normal use and you`re happy with the performance - thats good enough for me.

Since the Oakley lenses were not light sensitive - it usually ment packing a case with three sets of lenses. They`re optically excellent but with new technology if I can kill the need for interchangable lenses I`d be happier.
