I'm planning an early June tour of NE Oklahoma, starting somewhere near Tulsa and looping up around the lakes in the area. I'd like to hit Woolaroc and plan on camping at state parks or small campgrounds. I hope to be out 5 days or so.

Does anyone on here have any recommendations for roads to avoid, or preferably info on those roads that are not to be missed for touring? I was in the area 20 years ago and remember gorgeous countryside and some wonderful roads, but don't remember any specifics beyond Osage State Park.

I'll be doing self-contained touring and enjoy primative camping, if I can find some out of the way campgrounds that's preferable. In Missouri I camped at conservation areas, relatively small public lands with few amenities but plenty of peace and quiet.

Thanks,
JMurphy

I have been working quit a bit in that area, especially around Grand Lake. I do not like the roads in that area. Narrow, heavily traveled and unfriendly to bikes. Wonderful and beautiful country views. Take your pick.

Part of Oklahoma Freewheel's 2010 route would be a great place to look for route selection. We had a fabulous ride through eastern OK last year. I'll try to dig around and see if i can come up with the exact route.
