While the news about Tchmil is better than it might have been, he may even miss the Amstel Gold. It sounds as though he wants to hang on and go out on a higher note than possible this year. He will probably stay on until after the WCs in October.

Meanwhile, Ullrich is out of the Giro, and possibly the Tour. Some strange fatigue-related complication to his knee problem. Sounds too complex a tale to be just smoke.

But Simoni, despite a hairline crack in his knee from the fall he took in the Semana Catalana, will try to defend in the Giro.

These guys don't get paid enough!

Cheers...Gary

That's just terrible! I was going to be rooting for Ullrich, but it'll probably be just another victory lap for Lance Armstrong, bummer. What a terrible early season it's been with all the horrible injuries, scandals, etc. I hate to think of the tour without Ullrich.

Although I'm a Lance supporter (hey I live in Texas!)
I would hate to think of the tour without Jan.
I like Jan, he is a class act.
could be a walk in the park for Lance.
Realistically, who else is there?
Pantani and Simoni talk a good game
but I don't think they could do it.
oh I'm putting money on Jaja to make his
presence known again. If CSC is strong enough
I think he could challenge, lets see how he
and Hamilton do together.

Ah, this story ainīt new. I always read an other online cycling magazine (in german). In todays issue, Ullrich gives an interview, saying that he will do the TDF and thinks of a giro start, but that will be decided in early march. Today he will begin with riding his bike again, his knee problems are appearently gone but he doesnīs want to do too much so early now.
So, it still seems to be unclear of what Ullrich will be able to do this year. I hope for the best and wish him luck.

The decision is to be made early may, of course...

Isn't it awful about poor Steve Vermaut, the lotto rider? HE has some kind of heart condition- his heart has an irregular beat and is enlarged on one side. He has to stop racing indefinitely. The guy's so young- what a shame! But I remember Nicao mattan had a similar problem and he came back, so you never know.

Yes, thatīs a pitty. He is very talented and may have become a new Belgian star. Now, his career seems to be over without having really begun. Sometimes I think, I could be ill too but I donīt know...
May he recover fast and come back again like Mattan...
